Let’s welcome Venom to the C&C Family! We trained Logan back in 2022 so when his humans adopted Vemon they reached out to us for some support. While visiting family in San Diego, Claudia was able to do a 3 hour crash course addressing some behaviors & setting them up for success. We love seeing all the work they’ve continued to put in with Logan & their dedication to making Venom a part of their family!

Duke went on an adventure with his two homies. He was unsure of being in the water but by guiding him in with us while watching Zeus & Rango splash around, he started to relax. He was very careful where he was stepping but he did it! This was a great experience working on trust & confidence that will lead to more fun. Instead of allowing him to miss out & feed into his insecurity, I showed him to trust me as I guided him with the leash. It wasn’t “forceful” but still not “force free” because I expected him to follow. It’s unrealistic to expect a dog to never be stressed or uncomfortable but it’s our job to lead them through it!

Let’s welcome Hank to the C&C family! This big teddy bear is the prime example that leash/barrier reactivity can be frustration and not always aggression. He has been working hard learning manners so that by the end of his training he will be ready to be a great part of his new family.

First Lowes trip to practice the art of invisibility. A big part of training that owners miss is teaching their dog that people and the surroundings are neutral. They are able to move through a space without being bothered by anyone or anything therefore they do not have to decide if reacting is necessary. Especially with anxious dogs, as the human we are in control and they can rely on our safe presence. When this part of training is missed, dogs will learn humans/dogs fit into two categories - a threat or their best friend which will lead to reactivity. We train our clients to ignore until given the signal to interact/greet/play etc.
Duke was a little anxious but did great people watching with NO reactions. Great job!

Let’s welcome (Controlled) Chaos to the C&C Family! Chaos is also from the rescue CRC Paws. Malinois are a serious breed that need so much physical & mental work. Thankfully the rescue went above and beyond to provide treadmills along with making his training a priority!

Duke went to Cherokee Park on Easter Sunday! It was busy full of people, dogs, bikes, hoverboards, cars - Duke had ZERO reactions. It was his first time seeing our shepherd Rango and Duke walked with him as if they’ve known each other forever. We stood talking with a policeman for 30 minutes where Duke laid calmly next to me with people and bikes passing around us. It was such a great outing!
This doesn’t change the fact that he is a power breed & naturally has stranger danger. Even though he was very neutral, I wasn’t going to put him in a situation he’s not ready for yet. It’s my responsibility to advocate for his space not allowing strangers to pet him. I do this with all dogs. Once they’re at the level of trust, I am very selective of who I allow to interact with them. Dogs are like designer purses - you don’t just say yes because a stranger asked to grab it.

Duke had his first outing today! He did such a great job. It wasn’t very busy but he did great ignoring the few people, dogs & bikes we came across.
