Planning on getting that deer turned into a shoulder mount this upcoming deer season? Proper caping makes a BIG difference in the final mount. Here are a few tips to help protect your trophy:
Make the cuts correctly — Leave plenty of cape behind the shoulders and avoid cutting into the brisket or armpit area unnecessarily.
Keep the cape clean — Avoid dragging the cape through dirt, leaves, or mud.
Get it cooled down ASAP — Heat is one of the biggest enemies of a cape. Get the hide refrigerated or frozen as soon as possible.
A little extra hide is always better than cutting too much off.
The right cape + proper care = a better finished mount.
