Animal control professionals are an essential part of our public health system.

Every day they respond to animal bites, conduct rabies exposure investigations, educate the public on responsible pet ownership, and help prevent the spread of zoonotic disease in our communities.

Through the Animal Control Officer (ACO) Certification Program, the National Animal Care & Control Association provides training that equips officers with the knowledge and skills needed to support rabies prevention, bite investigation, safe animal handling, and community safety.

Public health doesn’t only happen in hospitals, it happens in neighborhoods, shelters, and communities through the work of trained animal care & control professionals.
