GVHS BOARD OF DIRECTORS — NOMINATIONS NOW OPEN
The GVHS Nominating Committee is now accepting self-nominations from members interested in serving on the GVHS Board of Directors.
This election includes:
• Two open seats for full three-year terms beginning January 1, 2027
• One seat to complete an unexpired term ending December 31, 2027
Applications close October 5, 2026.
Current Bylaw Qualifications
Under Article VII – Elections of the current GVHS Bylaws, to be elected as a Director, a candidate must:
• Be a member in good standing
• Be a General or Lifetime Member for at least 90 days prior to the designated election date
A Director’s regular term begins January 1 and expires December 31 three years later. The current Bylaws provide no term limits.
Experience We Encourage
While these are not additional Bylaw qualifications, we encourage members with experience that could benefit GVHS to consider applying, including:
• Long-term Gypsy Vanner breeders
• Business owners or business professionals
• Legal experience
• Finance or accounting
• Management and leadership
• Nonprofit or charitable organization experience
A strong Board benefits from members who bring a variety of professional skills, knowledge of the Gypsy Vanner breed, and organizational experience.
Please Consider the Time Commitment
Serving on the GVHS Board is an active commitment. Directors should expect a minimum of two meetings per month, approximately 1–5 GVHS-related emails per day, five days a week, plus additional time to review materials, prepare for meetings, and participate in Board business.
Directors are also expected to comply with GVHS Bylaws, policies, and the Board Code of Ethics, including requirements related to confidentiality, professionalism, participation, and conflicts of interest. The Code specifically requires Directors to conduct Society business in good faith and with honesty, integrity, due diligence, and reasonable competence.
If you would like to help GVHS but do not have the time necessary to serve as a Director, please consider volunteering for a committee or another area of the Society. There are many important ways to contribute.
Application and Election Process
The Nominating Committee will review applications to confirm eligibility and will interview candidates using a consistent set of questions. Qualified candidate information and responses will be posted on the GVHS website under the Election section and distributed to members by email.
