Genesee County Animal Care Volunteers Mission: To network and help the animals of Genesee County (MI) Animal Control find homes and rescues, along with helping the community.

The reason for this page is simple, to help save as many as we can. The administrators are very active VOLUNTEERS at the Genesee County Animal Control that are in the kennels each week socializing our homeless dogs and cats. We spend countless hours trying to network and save these animals by advertising, and trying to find rescues and adopters. We many times have animals that are not at the shelter that are in need. Flint and the surrounding area is in desperate need of help for our animals. There are few rescues in our county to help move our homeless dogs and cats along. Please help us share the animals we post on this page so that they can all find the homes that they deserve.

💙🐾 HEY, VENTI HERE… AND I’M GONNA VENT! 🐾💙

I’ve been in this place LONG ENOUGH, people. I am ready to bust out of here and start living the good life. 😂

First of all, LOOK AT ME. I’m a gorgeous blue-gray, handsome dude, and seriously… does it get much more handsome than this? I don’t think so. 😎

I’m about 1½–2 years old and around 70 pounds, and I would like to be your one and only pet.

Why?

Because obviously, I’m enough. ❤️

I LOVE people. I’m super social, affectionate, and I’m happiest when I’m getting attention. I even love baths, so yes, I’m handsome AND willing to be pampered. 🛁🐾

I’d do best with kids around 8+.

Now back to my venting…

I am totally over this kennel life. I do not like being stuck in here one bit. I should be stretched out on somebody’s couch, getting belly rubs, hanging out with my people, sleeping in a comfy bed, and enjoying all the amenities that come with having a HOME.

Not this kennel business. No thank you.

So somebody please come meet me and spring me from this joint.

I’m Venti. I’m venting. And I am VERY ready to go home. 😂💙

🚨 CUTIE ALERT: CANOODLE HAS ENTERED THE CHAT! 🧡🐾

At just 11–12 months old and 43 pounds, Canoodle is serving up maximum puppy charm in a smaller package! 🥰

This sweet, silly boy is a whole lot of fun wrapped up in one lovable pup. He’s got a wagging tail, a happy face, and so much love to give. Seriously, how could you not smile around this guy?!

🐶 DOG-FRIENDLY POTENTIAL: Canoodle has greeted other dogs with a wagging tail and a smile! We think he might love a canine sibling to zoom around with, though slow introductions are always important.

🧠 SMART COOKIE: He already knows sit and down and is eager to learn more. He’s food-motivated, wants to please, and would probably be a blast to teach new tricks!

🎾 READY, SET, PLAY! Canoodle is playful and energetic, so he’ll thrive with a family ready for walks, toys, playtime, and plenty of opportunities to burn off that puppy energy.

🧡 CERTIFIED CUDDLE BUG: All that fun comes with a whole lot of sweetness. When playtime winds down, Canoodle is more than happy to soak up some love.

Canoodle is at that wonderful age where he’s ready to learn, grow, explore, and become someone’s very best friend. He just needs a family ready to make him part of their world!

🩷🐾 GERTIE HAS HAD ENOUGH HARD DAYS. SHE’S READY FOR HER HAPPY ENDING. 🐾🩷

Some dogs come into the shelter and break your heart.

And then there are dogs like Gertie, who somehow manage to put it back together just by wagging their tails. 🥹💗

When Gertie arrived as a stray alongside another dog, both were in heartbreaking physical condition. They were emaciated, filthy, and frightened. It was clear these two had been through a lot.

But Gertie? This girl is a FIGHTER. 💪🩷

With care, food, and kindness, she's been gaining healthy weight and making progress every day. And as she's started to feel better, her personality has been shining through.

Meet the Gertie we're getting to know now:
😂 GOOFY SMILES that make it impossible not to smile back.
💋 WET KISSES for anyone lucky enough to receive them.
🐾 71 POUNDS OF WIGGLY, LOVABLE MASTIFF/CANE CORSO MIX who is ready to leave her difficult past behind.
❤️ A HEART FULL OF HOPE despite everything she's been through.

Gertie is about 6–7 years old, and she's making up for lost time one day at a time.

She isn't interested in dwelling on yesterday. She's ready for tomorrow—and she'd really love for tomorrow to happen in a home of her own.

The shelter has been a place where she can finally receive care, but now she's getting anxious to leave. She has more healing to do, more confidence to build, and so much life left to enjoy.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if her next chapter started with YOU? 🥹🏡

🩷 MEET GERTIE!
🐾 Approximately 6–7 years old
⚖️ 71 pounds
🐶 Believed to be a Mastiff/Cane Corso mix
💋 Goofy, affectionate & full of heart
💪 Gaining healthy weight and continuing to recover

👧 Older children, 10+ recommended, while she continues building confidence

📣 PLEASE SHARE GERTIE!

She's been through enough hard days.

Let's help her find the people who will fill the rest of her days with full food bowls, cozy naps, silly moments, and all the love her big heart can hold.

Gertie's past may explain where she started, but it doesn't get to decide where she goes next. Let's make her next chapter a beautiful one. 🩷🐾
