Our turkey poults, Biscuit and Gravy will have their first big day outdoors.
They've been safely spending time in the brooder and are ready to explore the big world.
I'll gradually transition them outdoors on days above 65° so they can acclimate.

🌼🐝 Why do honeybees love those beautiful spring days with cool nights and warm afternoons?

The answer lies in plant physiology.

During cool nights, plants continue to produce sugars through photosynthesis that occurred during the previous day. Because temperatures are lower, the plant's respiration rate slows down, meaning fewer of those sugars are consumed for growth and maintenance. This allows sugars to accumulate within the plant.

As temperatures rise the following day, these stored sugars are transported to the flowers and secreted into the nectaries—the specialized structures that produce nectar. The result is often nectar with a higher sugar concentration, making it more attractive and rewarding to pollinators like honeybees.

Warm daytime temperatures also increase nectar flow within the flower, making it easier for bees to collect. Research has shown that nectar production and sugar concentration are influenced by both temperature and humidity, with many flowering plants producing their most concentrated nectar during periods of cool nights and warm, sunny days.

For honeybees, this means a stronger nectar flow. Worker bees can gather more energy-rich nectar in fewer trips, allowing the colony to increase honey production and build food reserves more efficiently.

So when you see bees working overtime after a stretch of cool nights and warm days, you're witnessing a fascinating partnership between weather, flowers, and pollinators—one that ultimately helps fill the honey supers with liquid gold. 🍯✨

Boo Boo Bear just walked across the lawn as I was in the garden.
Luckily I was on speaker phone with Elizabeth Garretson and our chit chatting kept it away.

There is something truly magical about watching life begin. 🐣

Our Chick Incubation Program offers a hands-on, unforgettable experience from egg to hatch day. Over the course of the program, participants learn how to properly care for and monitor fertilized eggs, understand the incubation process, and witness the incredible moment when chicks begin to pip and hatch.

It’s more than just watching eggs in an incubator—it's a lesson in patience, responsibility, and the beauty of nature. Children and adults alike gain a deeper appreciation for where our food comes from and the care it takes to raise healthy animals.

By the end of the program, participants will have followed the full 21-day journey and walked away with knowledge, excitement, and a connection to the natural world that lasts far beyond hatch day.

Perfect for classrooms, homeschool groups, or anyone curious about farm life—this experience is one you won’t forget. 💛

Before rainbows paint the sky, sometimes nature creates something even more unexpected. 🌈☁️
Just now Joseph spotted a circumhorizontal arc — often called a “fire rainbow,” though it’s not actually fire or a rainbow at all! This rare phenomenon happens when sunlight passes through ice crystals high in cirrus clouds. The light bends just right, creating beautiful bands of color that look like someone brushed a rainbow across the sky.
Moments like this are a reminder that nature is always teaching us something. Whether we’re watching pollinators in the garden, observing animals on the farm, or simply looking up at the clouds, there’s always a little bit of magic waiting to be discovered. 💚
Did you know: Circumhorizontal arcs can only happen when the sun is very high in the sky and the ice crystals are perfectly aligned — making them a special sight to catch!
Go look up in the sky toward the East. Let me know if you can see it, too!

Honeybee swarm
So if you've been following along, I had two unreachable honeybee swarms in our trees. Today, the first swarm moved off to a location unknown rather than into the boxes I provided. The second swarm which occurred yesterday is still up in the tree .
I'm going to take a walk in the woods to see if they might have ventured into an old hollowed out tree or log.
If you happen to find my swarm or a swarm in your yard, please feel free to message me or call me at 347 -276-4202.
I'll be glad to remove them for you.
Thanks!

Two swarms in one weekend and both unreachable.
I checked all the hives and there didn't seem to be any reason for them to swarm.
They have plenty of resources, space for the queen to lay and seem healthy.
But as beekeepers say, "the bees will do whatever the bees want to do"🐝

Please don't swarm!

Quite a bit of activity at one of the boxes I put out in which I hope to lure this swarm.
Check out the video. It's a little long but I share some great information about the process that the bees use to choose an appropriate new home.
