Important Fact Friday! It is mushroom season. After the wonderful rains we've had there has been an explosion in mushrooms both in the forest and in our backyards. Flagstaff has several deadly poisonous varieties, such as the Death Cap mushroom (pictured), as well as the Jeweled Death Cap which is yellow with white spots and the Fly Agaric with it's red spotted cap. Be aware of mushrooms in areas where your pets have access and to be safe, assume all of them are toxic! If your pet ingests a mushroom, try to collect a sample for identification and seek veterinary help, since symptoms can be delayed and fatal.

Fun Fact Friday, Australian Cattle Dogs! These amazing dogs are one of the smartest breeds out there. George Elliott of Queensland started breeding dingoes with blue merle collies to create a tough working dog. Another breeder in Sydney bred those dogs with Dalmatians to create a dog who loved horses and was more loyal to the owner. The results of those crosses were bred with Kelpies and the Cattle Dog was born! Also known as Heelers due to their herding instincts of nipping at the heels of livestock, they are often born white with the coat pattern appearing in a few days due to the Dalmatian bloodline. The longest living dog was a Cattle Dog named Bluey who lived to be 29 years and 5 months! We love seeing these smart, loyal and tough dogs when they come in, they are fantastic pets.
