As we head into a month filled with costumes, candy, decorations, and Halloween fun, remember to keep all the spooky festivities pet-friendly and pet-safe! 🐾

We’ll be sharing Halloween safety tips throughout the month to help keep your ghosts, goblins, good boys, and very suspicious black cats out of trouble. 👀

Introducing… Wyatt & Layla, VetCheck’s first set of twins! 💙💗👶👶

Our Director of Training & Development, Kristina, and her husband, Jon, welcomed Wyatt and Layla into the world on July 2nd! 🥰

We’re so thrilled that Kristina and Jon have allowed us to follow along on their journey into parenthood - and, of course, we’re always happy when the babies stop by the clinic for some extra snuggles! 💕

And here’s a fun fact that makes their arrival even more special: Wyatt and Layla are the third generation of twins in Kristina’s family! Kristina is a twin herself, and her father is also a twin. Talk about a family tradition! 👯‍♀️✨

We couldn’t be happier for Kristina and Jon and are so excited to watch these two little ones grow. Welcome to the VetCheck family, Wyatt & Layla! 💙💗

🚫 Keep pets away from:
🍗 Chicken wings & bones - choking hazards & potential GI injury
🧅 Onions & garlic - toxic to dogs & cats
🥑 Dips & appetizers - may contain onions, garlic or other unsafe ingredients
🍺 Alcohol - even small amounts can be dangerous
🍫 Chocolate - toxic to pets
🍕 Greasy & fatty foods - can cause stomach upset or even pancreatitis

And don’t forget the trash! Wrappers, foil, bones and food scraps can be just as tempting after the game. 🗑️🐶

🍄 Not Every Backyard Mushroom Is Harmless!

Fall rain and cooler weather mean mushrooms are popping up in yards and along walking trails. While many are harmless, some wild mushrooms can be highly toxic to dogs and cats - and it can be difficult to tell the difference just by looking!

🐾 Signs of mushroom toxicity can include: vomiting, diarrhea, drooling, lethargy, weakness, tremors, seizures, or other unusual behavior.

If you think your pet ate a wild mushroom:
📸 Take a photo of the mushroom, if possible.
📞 Contact a veterinarian or animal poison-control service right away.
❌ Do not induce vomiting unless specifically instructed by a veterinary professional.

The safest rule? Treat every unknown wild mushroom as potentially toxic and keep curious noses away! 🍄🐶🐱

🍁 Leaves & yard debris - Piles of leaves can hide sticks, mold, mushrooms, wildlife, and other things curious noses may find before you do.

🍄 Wild mushrooms - Mushrooms tend to pop up after wet fall weather, and some can be highly toxic to pets. When in doubt, don’t let them take a bite!

🌽 Fall decorations - Corn cobs, decorative gourds, candles, string, and other seasonal décor can become tempting chew toys or foreign-body hazards.

🇺🇸🐾 Today, we remember not only the heroes of 9/11, but also the hundreds of search and rescue dogs who worked alongside first responders in the days that followed.

Through the rubble, exhaustion, and uncertainty, these incredible dogs brought courage, comfort, and hope when it was needed most.

25 years later, we honor their service, their handlers, and every life forever impacted by that day.
