Why was he named Teddy? Because he's as soft as a Teddy Bear! 😻

Teddy is an affectionate senior sweetheart who is looking for his second chance pretty late in life. This 12-year-old cat for adoption has life-long experience as a faithful feline companion, but he still has so much love left to give.

He has proven himself a very good friend to other cats and children in the past, but above all his first love is a good old fashioned licky treat. Teddy is a senior sweetheart who absolutely deserves the chance to love a family for the rest of his life.

Now all he needs is you. 🏡💕

A Little Toy and a Whole Lot of Brave 🧸

Meet Curly, a year-and-a-half-old Aussie mix who came to us as a stray. At around 33 pounds, he's a medium boy who takes the careful approach to life. New people give him pause, and he likes to take a quiet moment before he decides you're someone who will be kind.

Bring out a toy, though, and the playful goofball comes right out from behind all that caution. 💕 He's gentle, he's sweet, and once he's having fun, you get to see the real him. He already knows sit and appears to be housebroken. He's a smart boy who'll happily learn what you teach him with a little patience and a few treats.

Curly would do best with kids old enough to let him come to them, so eight and up is his sweet spot. A calm meet and greet will show us how he does with other dogs. 🐈 As for cats, we haven't tested him with them yet, but if you have a resident feline at home, we're happy to set up a cat test.

Curly isn't looking for much. Just someone willing to earn his trust, one toss of a toy at a time. Come meet Curly at HSHC, and don't forget to bring his favorite thing. 🧸

Before you head into the long weekend, we have some happy news to share! 🎉 Several shelter pets found their people over the past few days:

Christina Is Pure Goofball and She's Ready to Go Home 💞

Christina is just over a year old, around 60 pounds, housebroken, and full of personality! In her foster home, she’s been a dream with the other dog and wonderful with the kids she’s met.

She’s also a total comedian. Christina will sneak a mouthful of grass, lock eyes with you, and then bolt across the yard like she just pulled off the world’s silliest heist. She loves her toys, goes wild for a game of tug, and has already mastered “sit” and “shake.” Then bedtime rolls around and this little whirlwind turns into a complete snugglebug, curling up right next to her person. 🥰 She’ll just need a home without cats.

Here at the shelter, Christina is extremely stressed. The noise and constant stimulation are overwhelming for her, and it’s hard to see that funny, affectionate girl through it. We know she’s in there because we saw her blossom in foster. Once she had the chance to relax and feel safe, she was playful, cuddly and completely herself.

Now she’s back with us, and she needs that chance again. Christina shouldn’t have to spend her days overwhelmed in a kennel when we know there’s a wonderful dog waiting underneath all that stress. She has already shown us how wonderful she can be in a home. She just needs someone to give her the opportunity to get back there.

Come to HSHC and meet her. She may be stressed here, but we hope you’ll look past that and give the girl we know from foster a chance. 🏡💛

💕🐾 Meet Shadow | 4-Year-Old Cat for Adoption 🐾💕

One look at that face and you can tell Shadow has cattitude for days. This little black void is not afraid to share her opinions, and when asked about her current living situation... let’s just say Shadow's more of a "lounge in a sunbeam while her human basks in her glory from a distance" type of cat.

The hustle and bustle of the shelter isn't really her cup of tea. Though she does love posing for the public through the window of her roaming room, we know she would much prefer a home with a calm environment where she can get used to a steady routine. She just needs someone who can give her the time and patience to thrive in a new home. 🏡💕

Shadow might need a slower introduction to the people and pets in a new home, but it will only be a matter of time before she blossoms into the beautiful, affectionate, and playful house cat we know she can be. 😻 If you would like to meet Shadow, stop by the shelter anytime to meet her. Buddy Man Has a Standing Date 🧡

One of our former staff members still comes back to sign Buddy Man out for the day, and you can see the moment she walks in written all over him. In one of these photos his tail is going so fast it is just a blur. She loved him when she worked here and she loves him just the same now, and that is the truest thing anyone can tell you about this dog. He is the one people do not forget.

Buddy Man is four years old, 64 pounds, housebroken, and he already knows sit, down, and leave it. Neck rubs, a good body scratch, a squeaky toy, a long walk, he loves all of it. He is also a natural on the treadmill, which keeps his smart brain busy and his body happy. 🐾

He does best in a calmer home where everyone is at least 13 years old and the day-to-day stays pretty low-key. Buddy Man would love to be your one and only, so a home without other dogs or cats is where this boy truly shines, with every ounce of that big devotion pointed straight at you.

He has been waiting a long time for a person of his own. You already saw what his love looks like, and he is ready to give every bit of it to someone lucky enough to be his. Come meet Buddy Man and find out what it feels like to be that person. 💛

Barley's Picnic Time 🧺

There's a staff member here who spends her lunch breaks on a blanket with Barley. She reads her book, he sprawls out beside her, and for a little while the shelter noise just disappears. She calls it their picnic time. 📖 Barley has spent over two years across two shelters waiting to be picked, and he still hands his whole heart to anyone who slows down long enough to sit with him.

Barley is a four-year-old bull terrier mix, white from nose to tail and 87 pounds. He takes his time warming up to new people, but once you're his, you are it. He wants to be wherever you are, pressed against your side while you go about your day. He loves a good game of tug with his person, and he's a real gentleman about snacks.

On a leash, he is easy company and never rushes a good sniff. He is house-trained and crate-happy, and he can hang out on his own without turning the couch into confetti. A calm, low-key home is where this boy truly relaxes, ideally with teens 14 and up who can match his mellow speed. He would love to meet a potential dog friend with a slow and proper introduction, but cats are just not his crowd. He'll be happiest in a home without them.

Over two years. Not because anything is wrong with him, but because the right person just hasn't walked through the door yet. He came through a major knee surgery and bounced back like it never happened, still the same easygoing dog who can turn a rotten day around. Barley is ready to know what home feels like. Come sit with him and let picnic time become an everyday thing! 💕
