Every surgery starts long before the first incision. It starts with a veterinary technician who has spent years mastering their skills, anticipating needs, monitoring vitals, and showing up fully prepared for every patient who comes through the door.

Vet techs are the heart of every OR team, and their skill and dedication make a difference every single day. At some VCA specialty hospitals, we take surgical collaboration even further. Some of our teams include Certified Surgical Technologists (CSTs) — professionals who earned specialized degrees specifically to support surgeons in the OR.

The result? Less time under anesthesia. Better outcomes. And a team that truly works as one. 💙

Whittney is on our neurology team and recently passed her exam to become a Certified Veterinary Assistant! She has put a lot of time and effort studying for this comprehensive exam, and her efforts have paid off in a big way!

By gaining this credential, she has not only grown her career, but also has created a major, positive impact on our neurology department and hospital as a whole.

It's hard being just a wee little thing!

Tipping the scales at around 1.5 pounds, Esmerelda was too tiny to fit our smallest e-collar in the hospital. 💔

Not all heroes wear capes. ☝️

Whittney, one of our neurology assistants, stepped in to whip up her very own happy hat for Esmerelda, crochet style!

She has officially been discharged from our care and is back home with her family. Feel better soon, little one. 💜
