🐶 Puppy socialization is about a whole lot more than meeting other puppies.

One of the most important things we can teach a young puppy is how to experience the world calmly and confidently.

Our S.T.A.R. Puppy Group Class gives puppies an opportunity to learn around new people, other puppies, sounds, movement, handling, distractions, and different experiences—all while learning that they don’t have to interact with everything they see.

And while your puppy is learning, you are too.

We’ll help you build good training habits early, understand how to work with your puppy, and start developing the basic skills that will eventually grow into reliable adult manners.

At the end of the six-week class, puppies also have the opportunity to earn their AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy award. ⭐

🎓🐾 From Puppy Class to CGC Graduate — Congratulations, Kalvin!

We love watching our puppies grow up! Kalvin first came to us for S.T.A.R. Puppy Group Class, and now this energetic Australian Shepherd has officially completed our Canine Good Citizen Board & Train Program!

As a herding dog, Kalvin came equipped with plenty of energy, brains, and opinions about what everyone around him should be doing. 😂 At home, that sometimes meant trying to “herd” his humans, struggling with impulse control around passing cars, hyperactivity, and begging.

Dogs like Kalvin don’t simply need to be told what not to do—they need appropriate outlets for the behaviors and energy they naturally bring to the table.

That’s one of the reasons the structure of our Board & Train program can be so beneficial for busy, intelligent dogs. Kalvin’s days included training, enrichment, appropriate activity, rest, and opportunities to use his brain. We can then use skills like place training, leash manners, recall, and impulse-control exercises to give him a productive “job” when he needs one.

The goal isn’t to take the energy out of an Australian Shepherd. It’s to help teach them when and where to use it.

Kalvin has come a long way from that puppy we first met in class, and we’re so proud to celebrate another milestone with him and his family. ❤️

Knowing a command in the living room and being able to perform it around people, dogs, movement, smells, and other distractions are two very different things.

Our 6-Week Beginner Obedience Class helps owners build better communication and teaches dogs how to work with their handler even when the world around them gets more interesting.

We’ll work toward the skills of the AKC Canine Good Citizen program, with the opportunity to take the CGC test at graduation.

Our FINAL Advanced Obedience Class of 2026 is enrolling!

Beginner Obedience builds the foundation. Advanced Obedience is where we start asking for more—more reliability, more focus around distractions, greater distance and duration, and skills that translate into more freedom with your dog.

Throughout this six-week class, we’ll work toward off-leash reliability while challenging dogs to maintain their obedience as the difficulty increases.

Because the goal isn’t just a dog who listens when you’re standing five feet away with a treat. We want skills you can actually use while you’re out doing more with your dog.

And with winter ahead, better reliability opens the door to more adventures together—walks, hikes, snow days, travel, and exploring beyond your own backyard. ❄️🐕

Advanced Obedience also works toward the AKC Community Canine (CGCA) skills, with the opportunity to test at graduation.

🎓🐾 Congratulations, Kathryn & Lola!

Lola may have completed her Board & Train, but graduation day isn’t where our program ends.

At their follow-up in-home session, Kathryn & Lola put their training to the test and successfully passed the AKC Virtual Home Manners Adult (VHM-A) test!

Our Board & Train programs are designed to set both the dog AND the owner up for success.

Sending your dog away to work with professional trainers is only part of the process. When our dogs go home, their owners receive a private one-on-one go-home lesson where we teach them how to use the same skills, communication, and expectations their dog learned during training—and create a plan for continuing that progress at home.

Then we follow up where it matters most: in their own home.

During our in-home follow-up, we get to see how those skills are transferring into everyday life, troubleshoot anything that needs some extra attention, and make sure everyone is continuing to move in the right direction.

And we put the owners through their paces, too! 😉 Kathryn & Lola demonstrated their teamwork by completing the Virtual Home Manners Adult test, showing that Lola’s training isn’t just something she can do for her trainers—it’s working at home with her owner.

That’s what we want to see. ❤️

🎓🐾 Congratulations, Jake!

Jake is officially a graduate of our Canine Good Citizen Board & Train Program!

When Jake arrived, two of his owners’ biggest struggles were pulling on the leash and getting him to come when called. So during his stay, we spent plenty of time building better leash manners—and changing the way Jake felt about recall.

A reliable recall starts by teaching dogs that coming when called is worth it!

We use games throughout our Board & Train program to make recall fun and rewarding. Jake practiced:

🐾 Cookie Chase Recalls — building speed and enthusiasm for coming back
🐾 Hide & Seek — teaching him to seek out his handler when called
🐾 Group Random Recalls — practicing around other dogs and distractions while reinforcing that responding to his recall pays off

These games give us lots of opportunities to practice without recall becoming repetitive or something the dog learns to ignore.

Combined with better leash-walking skills, Jake is heading home with a much stronger foundation for getting out and doing more with his family.

Great job, Jake! ❤️ Now it’s time to keep playing those recall games and building on everything you learned!

🎓🐾 Congratulations, Lola!

Lola is officially a graduate of our Canine Good Citizen Board & Train Program!

One of Lola’s biggest training goals was impulse control, especially when food was involved. This girl had a habit of begging during family meals—and if her dog sister didn’t finish fast enough, Lola was more than happy to help herself. 😂

That made place training an especially valuable skill for her.

“Place” gives Lola a clear expectation during both human and dog meal times. Instead of hovering around the table, begging, or trying to steal another dog’s dinner, she can relax on her designated place until she’s released.

It’s a simple skill with so many practical uses around the house. Place training can help create structure during meals, when preparing food, answering the door, welcoming guests, or anytime your dog needs a clear job while life happens around them.

For Lola, learning to slow down, wait, and control those impulses was an important part of building better everyday manners.

Now it’s up to her family to keep putting those skills to work at home!

Congratulations, Lola! We loved having you with us and are excited to see those new manners in action. ❤️
