We have two opportunities for guardian homes!
A guardian home is a home that takes one of our breeding prospects, cares for the dog as if it were their own, and Lost Coast Aussies retains breeding rights.
Our guardian home program allows us to be a better breeder in a few ways.
It ensures each dog has their own family full of love. We currently only have 5 dogs in our home, and that is our max. We believe all dogs, but this breed especially, deserves to have individual love and attention. If we had 50 dogs in our home, not only would each dog be starved for attention, but my husband would divorce me.
It ensures each dog has a smoother transition into retirement after breeding. When she is done having litters (usually 2-3) we have her spayed and she remains in the home she grew up in, ensuring happy mamas for their entire life.
Here’s how it works:
The guardian home, once screened and selected, receives a breeding-quality pup at no charge. We pay for all breeding related expenses, you pay for all normal pet dog expenses (food, vaccines, etc.).
At 2 years of age, we finalize breeding related testing, select a stud for her, and breed her. She comes to us for progesterone testing and breeding and then back to you for the majority of her gestation (63 days).
She comes to our facility to whelp one week prior to her due date, and goes back to you after the puppies have been weaned. You have access to the 24/7 live cameras at all times, from the time she arrives to the time she leaves.
After all pups are matched with their homes, you receive a stipend in the amount of the average cost for one puppy. Or, you may choose one pup from her litter!
After her final litter, we pay for her spay, and she is your dog for life.
Requirements:
Location: You must live within 30 minutes of Ferndale, CA
Home: You must have a very secure, fenced yard and the ability to keep her safe from male dogs when in heat.
Other dogs: You may not have any intact male dogs in the home.
Stability: You must have plans to stay in the area for the next 5 years or so. If you decide to up and move to Ohio, the dog will need to stay with us.
Preschool: You must attend puppy preschool with Redwood Coast K9 Academy (We pay the fee).
If that all sounds good to you, here are the two females we would like to place into guardian homes:
Sage: Sage is a spunky, confident, and outgoing pup. She is showing some aptitude for herding, I have caught her a few times trotting out to the cattle very interested and brave. I would love to place her in a home with the intent to work livestock. She would also make a fantastic agility partner. She has excellent recall already and I can tell she will really want to please.
Lavender: Lavender is a more laid back, reserved, low energy pup. She would be great in a companion home. I would love to see her move toward her canine good citizen. She will be more low key and I would love to find her a family home, she absolutely adores children. She is very affectionate, but not in-your-face demanding about it. I love her sweet, quiet personality.
If you think you may be a good match for one of our pups and meet the above criteria, please complete the application below!
