Meet two of our very first Owner Foster dogs: Leroy and Buddy!
We recently introduced our new Owner Foster program, which gives families who need to rehome their dogs another option besides bringing them into the shelter.
With Owner Fostering, the dog remains in their current home while their owner works alongside Nassau County Animal Services to help find them a new family. These dogs can be advertised for adoption, attend events, meet potential adopters, and even come to the shelter for scheduled meet-and-greets, all while continuing to live in the home they already know.
And now we’d like you to meet two of the first dogs joining the program!
LEROY
Leroy is a 3-year-old medium-sized boy. He is currently staying in his home while we help spread the word that he is looking for a new family. Because Leroy is an Owner Foster, anyone interested in meeting him should schedule a viewing, so we can help coordinate a meet-and-greet.
BUDDY
Buddy is estimated to be between 8 and 10 years old and is also looking for his next home. His history with children and cats is currently unknown. He has had neighbors approach his fence and give him treats, but anyone interested in Buddy should schedule a viewing so they can spend some time getting to know him personally. His heartworm status is currently unknown.
Because Leroy and Buddy are Owner Fosters, they are not housed at the shelter, but that doesn’t mean you can’t meet them!
If one of these boys catches your eye, contact Nassau County Animal Services to schedule a viewing. We can help coordinate a meet-and-greet and provide additional information about the dog you are interested in.
Programs like Owner Foster help pets stay in a home environment while searching for their next family, while also keeping valuable kennel space available for animals who have nowhere else to go.
