Tonight, we had to make the unbearable decision to help our sweet old girl, Kita, go to eternal rest. 💔🐾🌈
Her health had declined so rapidly, and when the vet did her initial evaluation tonight, we learned that on top of the mass spreading throughout her mammary glands, she also had a large amount of fluid around her lungs. As much as my heart wanted to keep her here with me, I knew I couldn’t ask my girl to keep fighting just because I wasn’t ready to let her go.
This was, without a doubt, one of the hardest things I have ever had to do.
Reyli drove over so he could get his final goodbyes in, and in true Kita-and-Reyli fashion, even in her final hours she made sure he remembered exactly who was still the boss. 😂 He was trying to help her move, and she quickly let him know she could handle it herself. That was our Kita right until the end, stubborn, strong, sassy, and completely herself. ❤️
We stayed with her through her final moments. She was surrounded by the people who loved her, hearing our voices and feeling our hands on her as she peacefully left this world. I can only pray that when she opened her eyes on the other side, Tank was right there waiting for his girl. 🐾🌈
And now we came home… to just Nala.
I cannot even put into words what that feels like.
How did we go from our healthy Rottie family of three to just one in barely a month? Tank and Kita were such a huge part of our home, our routines, our family, our lives. The silence they have left behind is deafening, and the heartbreak is absolutely immeasurable.
Kita was so much more than a dog. For almost 12 years, she was my best friend, my confidant, my shadow, my protector, and the “doghter” I never had. She loved me fiercely, and I loved her just as fiercely.
Tonight, I loved her enough to let her go. 💔
Run free, my beautiful old girl. No more pain. No more tired body. No more struggling to breathe. Go find Tank and raise some hell together again. ❤️🐾
Until we meet again, Kita.
You took a piece of my heart with you tonight.
Our Rottie family will never be the same. 🌈🐾💔
