Here’s the story of Jacob Lee’s bear.
When I found out Jacob had a bear tag and he was coming hunting this fall I was pumped up right away! Little did I know my great uncle, Jacob’s grandfather Willard magle, had Willed him his bear points, giving Jacob enough to get a harvest tag. So it Didn’t matter what happend this was going to be a very special hunt.
We got a couple bear baits going but they were not getting hit as hard as we wanted them to plus we didn’t have a day time bear coming in consistently. I was recently running hounds with a great group of people, the Jonets! One of a kind sportsmen and houndsmen! So greatful for the helping hand these guys gave us.
After traing dogs one morning we stopped and talked about what baits have target bears on and to kind of get a game plan for the up coming kill season, when they asked me hey you have anyone with a tag? I didn’t hesitate! They told me where a couple nice dryed up sows have been hanging out and that they have a bait there. Go bait it up and hang a stand, so that’s what we did.
With colder temps settling in and approaching opening day, I don’t know who was more excited to hunt Jacob or me. We sat opening morning and didn’t see a thing. Jacob found the time to take a lil nap 😂 now comes time for the afternoon sit, we had good pics of a sow coming in around 6ish in the evening. Jacob seen the pics of the bear and we agreed if she comes in we will try and take her. Well our grandpas were with us for sure cause that sow came in and Jacob let that 7mm mag bark! And we’ll the rest is history! Congratulations Jacob on a trophy WI black bear! I’m glad I got to be apart of a hunt we won’t forget!
