It’s been a month. Life is fleeting and it’s so hard when that finality hits us in the face. We’re a family here. We don’t buy and sell horses. We’re family. We retire horses and give them the best life humanly possible. Same with our canine trail guides.

Emmy, our Head Beagle in Charge, originally belonged to a neighbor many years ago. After she adopted our horses, and our founder Gerry, her owner came over to say he recognized where she wanted to be. And from there on out, she was the lead beagle girl. Friend to Smokey and guests from all over the world. When she passed, all the horses formed a procession behind the tractor that carried her to her resting place. Listen. This was the most humbling and beautifully heartbreaking event we’ve ever seen. Each. And every. Horse came up to her. Nose to nose. Friend to friend. And paid their respects. Smokey, her special buddy, kneeled and bowed to her. We didn’t take pictures. We were in awe. Nose to nose, lifelong friends paid their respects. We cried our eyes out. Our young trail dogs came and recognized the queen. She was somewhere between 17 and 18. And that wasn’t nearly long enough.

And if her loss wasn’t enough to bare, we lost two horse friends. Nibbles, or Niblet as she was named, was born here 22 years ago. Her dad is Jack and her daughter is April. They’re half-lingers. More importantly, they’re family. We did all the things. We thought she rallied. Then she passed. And that’s not ok. Her bestie is finally eating again and we comfort ourselves with memories of her gentle spirit. And then there’s Nilki.

Have you ever heard how things go in 3s? Well, we certainly wish this wasn’t the case. Sweet, sweet Nikki was an older gal, like Nibbles, but she was in excellent shape. And then she wasn’t. Cancer is a horrible thing and takes away what it shouldn’t. But that’s life isn’t it? She looked out for our blind horse Spirit. Now, her task has been passed on to our senior guy, Lexington. She was gentle. She was one to look out for others. And now, we struggle to understand how life is supposed to go without these three incredible souls.

We appreciate your prayers. We appreciate your support. And we welcome you to come see us. Our team is committed to carry on their legacy and sharing the peace and beauty of God’s creation here at the .
