Let’s separate veterinary fact from fiction: June is National Microchipping Month, and it’s one of the most vital, yet misunderstood, pieces of preventative pet care we offer.

We hear a lot of questions about microchips at our clinic, so let’s break down the actual science of how they protect your pet:
❌ Myth #1: It’s a GPS tracking device.
Real talk: Microchips do not have batteries and they cannot track your pet's live location if they run off. Instead, they use Passive Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology. They sit dormant under the skin until a handheld scanner passes over them, emitting a low radio frequency that transmits a unique ID number.

❌ Myth #2: The injection is incredibly painful.
In reality, the chip is roughly the size of a single grain of rice. The implantation process is incredibly fast—just like a standard routine vaccination. It's done right in our exam rooms in a matter of seconds, requiring no anesthesia or downtime.

❌ Myth #3: Once it's implanted, you're fully protected.
This is where the system breaks down most often! A microchip only works if your current contact information is registered in the manufacturer's database. If you move or change your phone number, the chip will still read the old data.

One in three pets will go missing at some point in their lifetime. Collars snap and tags fall off, but a microchip is permanent identification.

🏷️ If your pet is already chipped, use this week to log into your registry account and double-check that your phone number is correct. If they aren't chipped yet, call or text Fayetteville Animal Hospital at our main line to get them scheduled. It takes minutes and provides a lifetime of peace of mind.

June is National Pet Preparedness Month, and with summer storm season arriving in Georgia, now is the perfect time to make sure your family is ready for unexpected emergencies. ⛈️🐕

If you had to evacuate your home quickly, do you have an emergency kit ready for your pet?
Here are the top 5 veterinary essentials to pack in a pet "Go-Bag":

1️⃣ A 3-to-7-day supply of their regular food and bottled water.
2️⃣ A backup supply of any vital daily medications (keep an eye on expiration dates!).
3️⃣ A physical copy of their vaccination records and medical history.
4️⃣ A recent photo of you with your pet in case you are separated.
5️⃣ A secure collar with readable ID tags, plus a backup leash.

As we wrap up the month of May, our team at Fayetteville Animal Hospital wants to touch on a vital topic: Pet Cancer Awareness. 🩺❤️

Cancer is one of the leading health challenges for adult and senior pets, but the single most powerful tool we have against it is early detection.

During your pet’s routine checkups, we look for subtle changes that might easily be missed at home.

Between vet visits, keep a close eye out for these warning signs:
🔍 New or changing lumps and bumps under the skin
🔍 Sudden, unexplained weight loss or loss of appetite
🔍 Persistent lethargy, coughing, or difficulty breathing
🔍 Slow-healing sores or unusual odors

Catching health changes early gives us the absolute best chance at effective care.

If you've noticed any new bumps or unusual behaviors in your furry friend lately, don't wait!
give us a call to schedule a quick peace-of-mind check! 🐾

May is Lyme Disease Prevention Month, and with the warm weather fully here, ticks are out in full force.

Lyme disease is transmitted through tick bites and can cause joint pain, lameness, fever, and kidney issues in our pets.

Because ticks love tall grass and wooded areas, even a quick walk around the neighborhood can put your pet at risk.

The best defenses are proactive:
• Check your pet’s fur thoroughly after spending time outside (especially around the ears, toes, and underarms).
• Keep them on a strict, year-round flea and tick preventative.

Prevention is simple, effective, and keeps your pet happy all summer long.
Is your pet protected for the season?
