This sweet puppy, Lake, came to see us from the Humane Society of the Ozarks and is here to brighten your Friday! 💕🐶

Lake also has an important reminder for all of our BFAHPH family:

☀️🐾 HEAT ADVISORY: Keep Your Pets Safe! 🐾☀️

Please be aware that Northwest Arkansas is experiencing a heat advisory today, with potentially more dangerously hot days ahead this week. Extreme heat can be dangerous for our pets, especially those left outdoors for extended periods. Puppies, senior pets, overweight pets, and pets with underlying health conditions may be at even greater risk for heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

🐶🐱 Please limit the amount of time your pet spends outside, avoid strenuous exercise during the hottest parts of the day, and NEVER leave your pet in a parked vehicle—even for a few minutes. Make sure outdoor pets have access to plenty of fresh water, shade, and a cool place to escape the heat.

🚨 Know the warning signs of heat-related illness: excessive or rapid panting, drooling or foaming at the mouth, bright red or pale gums, weakness, lethargy, dizziness, vomiting, diarrhea, confusion, collapse, or seizures.

Heat stroke is an emergency and can become life-threatening very quickly. If you suspect your pet is experiencing heat stroke, move them to a cool area and seek veterinary care immediately. Avoid using ice-cold water, as rapid cooling can be harmful; instead, use cool or lukewarm water while heading to veterinary care.

💙 A few extra precautions today could make all the difference for your best friend. Stay cool, stay safe, and keep those paws off the hot pavement! 🐾

🌞🐾 Madison Has an Important Summer Reminder! 🐾🌞

Our sweet friend Madison (one of our favorite senior patients! 💙) wanted to help us remind everyone that these extreme temperatures and heat advisories aren't just uncomfortable—they can be dangerous for our furry family members, too.

Just like people, pets can suffer from heat exhaustion and heat stroke, and these conditions can become life-threatening very quickly.

🐶 Help keep your pets safe by:
💧 Making sure they always have plenty of fresh, cool water.
🌳 Providing shaded, cool places to rest—indoors is best during heat advisories.
🚫 Avoiding walks during the hottest parts of the day. If the pavement is too hot for your hand, it's too hot for their paws!
🚗 Never leave your pet in a parked vehicle, even for "just a minute."

⚠️ Know the warning signs of heat-related illness:
• Excessive or rapid panting
• Labored breathing
• Excessive drooling
• Bright red or pale gums
• Weakness or lethargy
• Vomiting or diarrhea
• Confusion, stumbling, or collapsing

🐾 Flat-faced (brachycephalic) breeds—like Bulldogs, Pugs, French Bulldogs, Boston Terriers, Shih Tzus, and Boxers—are especially at risk for heat intolerance because they have a harder time cooling themselves. Senior pets, puppies, overweight pets, and those with underlying medical conditions are also more vulnerable.

If you notice signs of heat exhaustion, move your pet to a cool area immediately, offer small amounts of cool (not ice-cold) water, and contact your veterinarian right away. Heat stroke is a medical emergency, and early treatment can save lives.

Today we're celebrating an incredible milestone for someone who has made an immeasurable impact on our team, our patients, and our clients. 💙 Please join us in congratulating Alyssa, our amazing Lead Client Service Representative, on 5 years with Best Friends Animal Hospital & Pet Hotel!

Alyssa's journey with us began in our kennel department, where she quickly became known for the exceptional love, compassion, and attention she gave every patient in our care. From ensuring our hospital remained clean and sanitary to making sure every pet felt safe and loved, Alyssa set the standard from day one.

Her passion for learning led her to transition into our Client Service Representative team, where she dedicated herself to growing her customer service skills, expanding her medical terminology and veterinary knowledge, and building meaningful relationships with our clients. She was even awarded a scholarship to complete her Certified Veterinary Client Service Representative program, a rigorous certification that can take up to a year to complete, and she excelled every step of the way.

Two years ago, Alyssa was promoted to Lead CSR, and she has continued to inspire those around her through her dedication, leadership, and commitment to growth. She works tirelessly to support and develop her team so they can provide the exceptional service and compassionate care that our clients and patients deserve every single day.
