🐾❤️ LINCOLN COUNTY, YOU SHOWED UP AGAIN! ❤️🐾

Yesterday was another successful Amanda Endsley Memorial Pet Food Pantry Day, and today we simply want to say THANK YOU.

These pantry days don’t happen because of one person or one organization. They happen because we live in a community filled with people who care. ❤️

Every bag of pet food we are able to provide comes from your generosity. Your donations put food into bowls, ease the burden for families who may be going through a difficult season, and most importantly, help keep beloved pets fed, loved, and at home with the people who need them just as much as they are needed. 🐶🐱

That is what community looks like.

We are incredibly grateful to everyone who donates food, gives financially, volunteers, shares our posts, and continues to support the Amanda Endsley Memorial Pet Food Pantry. Because of YOU, we are able to offer this resource to Lincoln County residents.

Amanda’s memory continues through every act of kindness this pantry represents, and we are so thankful to everyone who helps us carry that kindness forward. ❤️

🚨 TNR UPDATE: FULL-SERVICE EDITION 🚨

Another successful round of TNR is in the books, and we’d like to introduce you to this week’s Most Satisfied Customer. 😂

This handsome gentleman arrived for the standard package:
✂️ Neuter
💉 Vaccines
👂 Ear tip
🏡 Return to colony

BUT during his visit, an abscess was discovered that needed treatment.

And because apparently the Humane Society of Lincoln County is now the Jiffy L**e of feral cats, we went ahead and handled that too. 😂

Sir came in with an abscess and his manhood and left with NEITHER.

Judging by this photo, he had absolutely ZERO complaints about the anesthesia. 😂😂😂

👅 Tongue out.
👀 Eyes somewhere in two different zip codes.
🧠 One lonely brain cell playing elevator music.

We feel fairly confident his post-op review would read:

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
“Came in for a small medical issue. Woke up missing several things. Not entirely sure what happened. Drugs were excellent. Would probably not recommend to my male friends.”

After recovering from what we can only assume was the best nap of his entire feral life, this boy was successfully released back to his colony, along with the other cats from this round—all spayed/neutered and vaccinated.

And THAT is why TNR matters. ❤️ One colony, one cat, and apparently one abscess at a time. 😂

Trap. Neuter. Vaccinate. Return.
And occasionally… abscess removal with complimentary happy hour.

A couple reminders:

1. We’ll see you TOMORROW at Pet Supplies Plus in Hazel Green! We currently have WAY too many fully vetted babies who have packed their imaginary bags and are patiently waiting for THEIR person to show up. 😂❤️

If you’ve been thinking about adding a four-legged friend to your family, consider this your sign. 👀

Come meet some of the absolutely beautiful animals in our program. You may walk in “just to look”… but we all know how that story ends. 😏🐶🐱

2. We’ll be back out Sunday evening trapping for TNR, and we need our little furry freeloaders to be hungry enough to go INTO the traps. 😂

A well-fed feral cat has absolutely no interest in our carefully selected trap cuisine. Instead, they prefer to lie leisurely ON TOP of the traps, sunning their happily full bellies while judging us. 😹☀️

So please skip the buffet for a bit! A hungry kitty is a trappable kitty—and we promise normal restaurant service will resume after trapping. 🐾

🐾 HUMANE SOCIETY vs. ASPCA vs. PETA — AREN’T THEY ALL THE SAME THING?

This is a question we hear more often than you might think, so today’s Animal Welfare 101 lesson is clearing up a very common misconception.

The short answer? No. Not even close.

🐶 LOCAL HUMANE SOCIETIES

Despite the name, there is not one national “Humane Society” organization that oversees every humane society in America.

Most local humane societies — including the Humane Society of Lincoln County — are independent nonprofit organizations. We have our own board, our own policies, our own budget, and our own programs.

That means when you donate to a large national animal organization, that money does not automatically trickle down to your local humane society.

Local humane societies typically focus on boots-on-the-ground needs in their own communities: fostering and adoption, spay/neuter programs, TNR, veterinary care, pet food assistance, education, and helping animals and families in crisis.

🏛️ THE ASPCA

The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) is a national nonprofit organization founded in 1866.

Its work includes animal rescue and disaster response, anti-cruelty efforts, grants, veterinary and rehabilitation programs, research, public education, and advocacy for animal-protection laws.

Despite the similar names and shared mission of helping animals, your local humane society is not a branch of the ASPCA.

📣 PETA

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is an animal-rights organization founded in 1980.

PETA’s philosophy and mission are broader than traditional companion-animal rescue. Its work focuses heavily on changing how animals are used by people, including animals used for food, clothing, entertainment, experimentation and other purposes. It is particularly known for advocacy, investigations, public campaigns and sometimes controversial tactics designed to draw attention to animal-rights issues.

Again, PETA does not operate or govern your local humane society.

🐾 SO WHAT’S THE BIG DIFFERENCE?

Think of it this way:

Local Humane Society:
“How can we help the animals in our community today?”

ASPCA:
“How can we fight cruelty and improve animal welfare on a larger scale?”

PETA:
“How can we change society’s use and treatment of animals?”

There can certainly be overlap, but these are separate organizations with different philosophies, priorities, programs and funding.

And that’s an important distinction.

When you support the Humane Society of Lincoln County, you’re supporting an independent, local organization working right here in our community. Your donations help fund the programs and animals we serve — from veterinary care and fostering to TNR, pet food assistance, spay/neuter efforts and everything in between.

We aren’t PETA.
We aren’t the ASPCA.
And we aren’t a local chapter of some giant national Humane Society organization.

We’re your neighbors. We’re local. And our focus is the animals and people of our community. ❤️🐾

🐾🐶 IT’S NATIONAL DOG DAY! 🐶🐾

Today is the day we officially celebrate the creatures who:

🐕 Bark at absolutely nothing.
🧦 Steal socks like they’re building a retirement fund.
🛏️ Take up 87% of a king-size bed while weighing 14 pounds.
🚪 Demand to go outside…then immediately demand to come back inside.
🍗 Can hear a cheese wrapper open from three counties away.
👀 Follow you to the bathroom because apparently personal space is not included in the dog-owner package.

And we wouldn’t have it any other way. ❤️

In honor of National Dog Day, we’re introducing you to the furry members of the Humane Society of Lincoln County Board! These are the spoiled, shedding, barking, bed-hogging little souls who run our households and remind us every single day why we do what we do.

Now we want to meet YOUR DOGS! 🐾

📸 Flood our comments with dog pictures! Big dogs, little dogs, old dogs, puppies, purebreds, magnificent mutts, couch potatoes, professional troublemakers and the ones who are absolutely NOT allowed on the furniture while currently lying on the furniture.

Bonus points if you tell us their name and the most ridiculous thing they do. 😂

Tonight, while we were releasing one of our TNR cats, the tiniest little baby simply walked right up to us—as if she knew exactly where to go to ask for help.

At just ONE POUND, her little eyes were matted completely shut with infection. She couldn’t see us, but somehow, she found us anyway. 💔

And when a tiny Tennessee girl shows up needing a little help, there’s really only one name worthy of her…

🎶💕 Everyone, meet DOLLY! 💕🎶

Named, of course, after Tennessee’s own Dolly Parton—because if you’re going to start life with the odds stacked against you, you might as well have a name that says, “Just you wait and see what I can do.”

Our Dolly may not have a Coat of Many Colors yet, but she certainly has a story to tell. She’s had a pretty rough 9 to 5, and right now we’re going to love her, doctor those little eyes, and make sure she knows she doesn’t have to face another hard day alone.

And Dolly, sweetheart, when it comes to getting better, we will always love you. ❤️

She may only weigh a pound, but anyone familiar with her namesake knows that big things can come from tiny little girls from Tennessee.

So send up some prayers, good thoughts, and lots of love for our little Dolly. We’re hoping that before long, those beautiful eyes will open and she’ll get her first good look at the people who are already cheering her on.
