🐱 Can you tell when your cat is in pain?

Cats are masters at hiding discomfort, but sometimes their face gives us clues. The Feline Grimace Scale helps identify subtle changes that may indicate pain, including:

👂 Ear position
👀 Squinting or tightened eyes
🐱 Muzzle tension
〰️ Whisker position
⬇️ Head position

During Pet Pain Awareness Month, take a closer look at your kitty. One small change may not mean something is wrong, but several changes together—especially with differences in appetite, activity, or behavior—are worth paying attention to.

Noticing something unusual? Our cat-loving team is here to help. 💙🐾

🐈‍⬛ Lucky charm or bad omen? Depends where your cat is sitting. 👀🌎

Cats have been wrapped in myths, legends, and superstitions for centuries—and what they supposedly “mean” changes dramatically depending on where you are in the world.

🐾 Japan: The maneki-neko, or beckoning cat, is a symbol of good fortune and prosperity.

🐾 Scotland: A mysterious black cat appearing at your home has traditionally been associated with prosperity.

🐾 Russia: In some traditions, letting a cat enter a new home first is believed to bring good luck.

🐾 Ancient Egypt: Cats were deeply respected and associated with protection and the goddess Bastet.

🐾 Parts of Europe & North America: Black cats have historically been linked to bad luck and witchcraft—although many cultures consider them lucky instead!

And our favourite modern-day cat superstition?

✨ If your cat knocks something off the counter, it means… they’re going to do it again. ✨

Superstition or science, one thing is certain: cats have been keeping humans fascinated for thousands of years. 😹

💛🐱 The best things in life often come with a little gray around the whiskers.

When people visit a shelter, it's easy for the kittens to steal the spotlight. But while the little ones are busy climbing curtains and discovering new ways to cause chaos, senior cats are often quietly waiting for someone to notice them.

What many people don't realize is that older cats have so much to offer.

Their personalities are already established, so you know who you're bringing home. Many are calm, affectionate companions who enjoy cozy naps, sunny windows, and spending time with the people they love. They're often past the "tiny tornado" stage and ready to settle into a predictable routine.

One of the biggest myths about senior cats is that they won't bond with a new family. In reality, we've seen countless older cats blossom into devoted companions once they feel safe, loved, and at home.

Yes, senior cats may need a little extra veterinary care as they age—but in return, they often give something truly special: quiet companionship, unconditional love, and a deep appreciation for having a place to call home.

If you've ever considered adopting a cat, don't overlook the silver-whiskered sweethearts. They just might become the best friend you never knew you were missing. 🧡

If you have a senior cat at home, we're here to help them stay healthy and comfortable through every stage of life. Call us today at [Phone Number] to schedule their next wellness visit.

🛠️🐱 Looking for a weekend project your cat will actually appreciate?

Skip the expensive furniture store and build your own DIY cat tree! Not only can you customize it to fit your space, but you'll also create the perfect place for your cat to climb, scratch, perch, and survey their kingdom.

What you'll need:
🪵 Sturdy wooden shelves or platforms
🧶 Sisal rope
🟫 Carpet remnants or non-slip mats
🔩 Brackets and screws
🏗️ A sturdy base

Want to make it even more cat-approved?

✨ Add a cozy bed on the top perch.
🧸 Hang a few toys for extra entertainment.
🪵 Include scratching posts wrapped in sisal rope.
🪟 Position it near a window for the ultimate "Cat TV."

Cats naturally love to climb, scratch, and observe the world from above. A well-designed cat tree provides exercise, mental enrichment, and a safe place to relax—all while giving your feline friend a throne worthy of royalty.

Because every house panther deserves a castle. 👑🐈

🐱💛 Charles Dickens may have said it best:

"What greater gift than the love of a cat?"

Cat lovers know that earning a cat's trust isn't something that's given freely—it's something that's earned over time.

It's the quiet purr at the end of a long day.
The gentle head bump asking for affection.
The slow blink from across the room.
The warm little body curled up beside you while the rest of the world sleeps.

A cat's love may be subtle, but once you've experienced it, you know it's one of life's greatest gifts.

To everyone who's ever been chosen by a cat... you understand. 🖤

🐱 Did you know there's one nutrient cats simply can't live without?

It's called taurine, and unlike people and dogs, cats can't produce enough of it on their own. That means they must get it from their food every single day.

Taurine quietly supports many of the body's most important functions. It helps keep a cat's heart pumping normally, supports healthy vision, plays a role in the nervous system, and is essential for growth and overall well-being.

What's fascinating is that this all comes back to evolution. Cats are obligate carnivores, meaning they've evolved to rely on nutrients naturally found in animal tissues. Over thousands of years, their bodies adapted to obtain taurine from their prey rather than manufacture enough themselves.

When cats don't get adequate taurine over time, the consequences can be serious, including heart disease and irreversible vision loss. Fortunately, complete and balanced commercial cat foods are formulated to provide the taurine cats need to thrive.

It's a great reminder that cats aren't just small dogs—their nutritional needs are truly unique, and every bite of their diet matters.

👃🐱 Ever catch your cat smelling something... then suddenly making the funniest face?

No, they're not judging the smell.

(Okay... maybe a little. 😹)

That funny open-mouth expression is called the Flehmen response, and it's your cat's way of activating a remarkable sensory organ called the Jacobson's organ—sometimes referred to as a cat's "second nose."

Located on the roof of the mouth, this special organ allows cats to analyze scents in a way humans simply can't. Instead of just smelling an odor, they're gathering extra chemical information about the world around them—from other animals and people to potential mates and unfamiliar objects.

So the next time your cat freezes with their mouth slightly open after sniffing your shoes, a new blanket, or another pet...

They're not making a face.

They're running a full scent investigation. 🕵️🐾

Cats may be curious by nature—but thanks to their incredible sense of smell, they're also some of the world's most talented detectives.

🐱❤️ Do cats have a favorite person?

The answer might surprise you...

Many cats do!

But it isn't always the person who fills the food bowl.

Cats often form their strongest bonds with the person who understands their language. Someone who respects their boundaries, recognizes when they want affection (and when they don't), and lets the relationship develop on the cat's terms.

In other words, your cat may choose their favorite human because they feel the safest, most comfortable, and most understood around them.

Signs you might be "the chosen one" include:
🐾 Following you from room to room
😽 Slow blinks from across the room
🛏️ Sleeping beside (or on) you
🎵 Greeting you with chirps or trills
💛 Bringing you their favorite toy
🐈 Simply choosing to spend time near you

The best part? Cats don't give their trust away easily. When a cat chooses you, it's one of the greatest compliments they can give.

Turns out, being your cat's favorite has a lot less to do with treats... and a lot more to do with trust. 🖤
