There is SO much information flooding the internet and coming from all different directions when it comes to dog training. I can only imagine how overwhelming it can be for pet owners trying to figure out what’s best for their dog!

We want you to have the best experience possible, and a big part of that is never stopping learning. We are passionate about what we do and so thankful for the opportunities we have to continue growing as trainers!

Every single trainer with OLK9 Detroit sacrificed 5 whole days away from their families, our own dogs, and our wonderful clients to show up, learn, and grow together.

We had the opportunity to learn from Michael Ellis, Larry Krohn, Jay Jack, Stephanie Vichinsky, Omar Von Muller, Bob and Erika Solimini, Christine and Cameron Carlisle, and of course, Nick White, who made this incredible weekend possible.

Some of you may have never heard of some or even any of these names, and that’s okay! But in the dog training world, these are some of the GOATS, and we feel incredibly fortunate to learn from people who have dedicated so much of their lives to this craft.

We will never claim to know it all, and we never want to stop getting better.

We want to be the best trainers we can be for you, your dogs, and every future client who trusts us with their dog.

Fun fact for dog lovers! Did you know dogs can have a dominant paw, just like people can be left- or right-handed?

You may also notice your dog licking their paws from time to time as part of normal grooming. But if the licking becomes frequent or excessive, it could be worth checking for irritation, allergies, or discomfort.

Try watching your pup the next time you offer a treat. Which paw do they reach with first?

No dog is perfect… all dogs have something. One of Posey’s somethings is anxiety at the vet. So to curb that, we get there early to allow time to decompress before being manipulated and handled. We do occasional visits where nothing is done and to get treats from the staff and again, allow time to decompress before leaving. Most importantly, she is muzzle conditioned to keep everyone safe and if needed, it’s not a surprise to her to add a stressor in an already stressful situation.

So proud of her progress over the years!

Not every walk needs to be about distance, speed, or perfect obedience. Sometimes, slowing down and letting your dog explore is exactly what they need.

A decompression walk, or “snifari,” gives your dog time to sniff, investigate, and engage with the world at their own pace. These calmer outings can provide valuable mental enrichment and help dogs practice settling around everyday sights, sounds, and smells.
Try a quieter route, give your dog a little more freedom to explore safely, and remember: a successful walk isn’t always measured in miles. How much sniffing time does your dog get on walks?
