As many of you know, we take in impounds for four municipalities. This poor guy showed up late last night. His condition nearly had me in tears. You get a small sense of it in these photos, but can’t begin to imagine what he looks like in person. It appears that his jaw is broken, the stench of infection is emanating from his mouth, he only licks his food -does not chew- but when he yawned, I was able to see that most of the teeth on the right side of his mouth are gone as well. This did not happen from getting hit by a car. It sickens me to know that his injuries were almost surely caused at the hands of a human, and I use the term “human” loosely….
I medicated him to make him a little more comfortable for today, and I will be taking him to the vet first thing in the morning. Then I will find out if they think surgery is necessary. If he’s a good candidate, I will proceed with that and have him neutered at the same time. I will also probably be creating a GoFundMe for his surgery if that’s the route that makes the most sense because the County will not pay for that surgery. Despite the obvious pain, he has started wagging his tail a little bit today and shows himself to have a happy disposition and a will to live.
Stay tuned for updates on our special guy.
PS- he is number six for impounds that I currently have in my care - And number seven showed up this morning. I will be posting the dogs that are done with their stray hold and are up for adoption. Please share those posts if you are unable to Foster or adopt. These dogs all deserve better than to live in the Kennel for months on end. I do my best to get them out and spend time with them, but it’s not the same as having their own home.
Thank you all for taking the time to read this 🐶🐶💕💕
