Although I did not go to school specifically to hold a certificate telling me I am a "certified dog trainer", my work shows in my own dogs, as well as the many dogs & clients I have and am currently training.
Don't get me wrong, there are many "non certified " trainers out here scamming and doing crap work for you and your dogs, but there are just as many "certified" trainers doing just as bad, if not worse!! & Because becoming a dog trainer in the sate of Maine is extremely unregulated- a piece of paper generally means very little- however, your own dogs, your clients dogs, and your knowledge in real dog training is what does. (side note- I am certified with the AKC, not that it really matters, although it is fun to train & certify your pups with their Canine Good Citizen ;) - credentials?)
If you've trained with me, I'll tell you at our 1st session- try multiple trainers, try different styles, and find what works best for you & your dog(s)!!
Anyone can use an e collar, anyone can put on a prong collar, anyone can use a slip lead- but what brands are you using? Are you fitting them correctly? Do you know how to apply correct, fair & appropriate pressure?! Do you know when to actually, appropriately, reward your dog?! This is where many go wrong. Most , not all, of your positive only trainers will grab at straws if offering food no longer works in the real world. " Try this, use this, this should help " - only ruins your dogs understanding as well as your own confidence in these tools, when not used & applied correctly!

Do your research, ask questions, spectate, and meet your potential dog trainers personal dogs. If you don't like what you see, find a new trainer!! Getting you and your dog trained is an investment! 🌟
