Our IRONTON Veterinary Office will be closed on Friday, July 3rd.

🐾 Important Update from Veterinary Clinic of the Mineral Area 🐾

To help protect our patients, staff, and community, we will now require all dogs and cats to be current on their rabies vaccination before we can perform nail trims/anal glands or surgical procedures.

Rabies is a fatal disease that can affect both animals and people, and vaccination is one of the most important ways to keep everyone safe.

If your pet is due for a rabies vaccine or you’re unsure of their vaccination status, please give us a call and we’ll be happy to help get them up to date.

🌟 Foaling Season Tips for Horse Owners 🌟

Foaling season is an exciting (and sometimes nerve-wracking!) time for horse owners. Here are a few quick veterinary tips to help keep both mare and foal safe and healthy:

🐴 Know the Signs Labor Is Near�• Udder development and waxing of teats�• Softening around the tail head�• Restlessness, pacing, or nesting behavior

🧹 Prepare a Clean Foaling Area�A clean, dry stall with deep bedding helps reduce infection risk for both mare and foal.
Foaling can happen quickly, so preparation and early recognition of problems are key!

⏱️ Remember the 1-2-3 Rule�• 1 hour: Foal should be delivered within about 1 hour of active labor�• 2 hours: Foal should stand within 2 hours�• 3 hours: Foal should nurse within 3 hours

🚨 Call Your Veterinarian Immediately If:�• Labor lasts longer than 20 minutes with no progress�• Only one hoof or the nose appears without the other hoof�• The placenta isn’t passed within 3 hours�• The foal is weak, not nursing, or seems abnormal

🍼 Don’t Skip the Foal Exam�A newborn foal exam and IgG test within the first 12–24 hours is important to make sure the foal received enough antibodies from colostrum.

📞 If you have a mare due to foal soon, don’t hesitate to contact us with questions or to schedule a newborn foal exam.
