Tri Vet Associates is a mixed animal veterinary clinic, with offices in Farley, Dyersville, and Holy Cross. We cover a large area from Dubuque, to Manchester and Guttenburg, to Cascade. Our eight doctors and support staff provide veterinary services to the large and small animals of the surrounding area. Chapman, Goerdt and Rahe established a clinic in Farley. During those early years, our practic

e was almost exclusively farm animals. Our practice has grown and changed since then. Now, a significant percentage of our practice is pets. Today five of our doctors focus on large animals, either traveling the countryside or providing care for cattle hauled into our facility. Three of our doctors focus on both large and small animals, also traveling the countryside as well as caring for dogs, cats, and pocket pets in our Farley and Dyersville offices. The Farley office is our main clinic. In Farley, the large animal area has pens and chutes for working cattle, a tilt table, facilities capable of handling bulls, and cattle surgery areas. The clinic also has small animal facilities that house a state of the art surgery room, medicine treatment room, new spacious dog runs and cat areas, and comfortable exam rooms. Also in Farley is a bacteriology lab, conference room, and doctor’s reference library. The Dyersville office was built in 1998 to accommodate dogs, cats, and pocket pets, although many large animal products are sold through the office. The clinic contains a spacious surgery area, medicine treatment room, comfortable dog runs, and a calm cat boarding area. The Holy Cross office serves as a satellite clinic and stocks large animal supplies for producers in the Holy Cross area.

⭐️ FUN CASE FRIDAY ⭐️
Struvite Crystals

These are crystals that are formed in the bladder due to a high pH of the urine, usually during chronic UTI cases. When we say your pet has crystals in their urine, these are typically what we are seeing on the urinalysis. Patients present with accidents, frequent urination, pain, or incontinence. This case is treated with antibiotics and a dietary switch to a urinary food to decrease the pH of the pets urine and dissolve the crystals.

As the weather is warming up, heat stroke is a large concern. We know you love to let your pets outside to run and enjoy the sun, but you need to watch them closely if they are not used to the heat. Common breeds to experience this are the brachycephalic such as frenchies, bulldogs and pugs or long thick coated breeds. Ensure you offer water and rest breaks when going on walks or playing fetch.

If you think your pet is experiencing heat stroke call our office or doctor on call immediately!

⭐️ FUN CASE FRIDAY ⭐️
Urinary Stones AKA Uroliths

This patient is an 8 year old spayed female teddy bear that presented with bloody urine. An x-ray was taken and showed multiple small urinary stones in her bladder which was causing the irritation and blood in her urine. Dr Jacobson gave her an antibiotic injection to treat the urinary infection and started the patient on Royal Canin Urinary SO food in hopes to dissolve the stones and not need to preform surgery to remove them.

At the 2 week recheck, the owner reported no symptoms of UTI and almost exclusively eating the urinary diet. Bladder stones were still present but less prominent so she continued on the food and rechecked bladder 3 months later.

3 months later and the stones are gone! The plan is to continue her on urinary food to prevent stone formation in the future and monitor for urinary symptoms.

Happy Veterinary Receptionist Week!

These ladies are the frontline of our clinics. They do the hard task of triaging medical emergencies via phone, scheduling appointments, filling medications, and so much more. Sometimes they even feel like therapists 😉. We would be lost without them ♥️
