🎒 Back-to-School Pet Safety

Back-to-school season means new schedules, busy mornings, and plenty of activity around the house. While you're getting the kids ready for another school year, take a minute to think about your pets, too!

A few things to keep in mind:

• Lunches and snacks: Keep backpacks and lunchboxes out of reach. Chocolate, grapes, raisins, sugar-free products, and other foods can be dangerous for pets.

• School supplies: Some pets love to chew on anything they can find. Markers, glue, crayons, erasers, and other supplies should be kept somewhere your pet can't get into them.

• Medications: With everyone getting back into a routine, make sure medications aren't accidentally left on counters, nightstands, or in backpacks.

• New routines: Going from a busy summer to an empty house during the school day can be an adjustment for some pets. Try to keep their routine as consistent as possible and give them some extra attention when you can.

A little preparation can help keep your pets safe as everyone settles back into the school-year routine.

And as always, if your pet gets into something they shouldn't, our Emergency Department is open 24/7 to help....

🎉 20 YEARS OF DR. KRAMER! 🎉

This week we've had the privilege of celebrating a pretty incredible milestone with our hospital - 20 years of Dr. Jeff Kramer at RRAEH! 💛🐾

For two decades, Dr. Kramer has been a steady presence in our Emergency Department, caring for countless patients and families while also making a lasting impact on the people lucky enough to work alongside him.

Ask our team about Dr. Kramer and you’ll hear a lot of the same things: kind, compassionate, brilliant, dependable, and always good for a laugh when you need one most. You may also hear a suspicious number of stories involving him jumping onto or over various pieces of hospital furniture. Apparently, questionable parkour is part of the Kramer experience. 😂

Twenty years in emergency veterinary medicine represents an incredible amount of dedication, long nights, difficult cases, lives changed, lessons taught, coworkers supported, and pets cared for. We are so incredibly grateful that Dr. Kramer has spent those years as part of the RRAEH family.

Dr. Kramer, thank you for 20 years of compassionate care, endless knowledge, laughter, kindness, and everything you’ve given to our patients, clients, and team. We’re beyond lucky to have you. 💛

Please help us congratulate Dr. Kramer on 20 YEARS! 🎉👏...

After more than a decade of caring for pets and their families at RRAEH, Dr. Stegman is beginning an exciting new chapter.

Throughout his years with us, Dr. Stegman has cared for thousands of patients, supported countless families through some of their most difficult days, and been an incredible teammate to so many within our hospital. His compassion, dedication, and steady presence have left a lasting mark on our team, and while we're certainly going to miss him immensely, we're also incredibly excited for what's ahead.

Dr. Stegman will be joining Minn-Kota PAAWS as they expand their mission of providing veterinary care to rescue organizations, individuals experiencing housing insecurity, and families facing financial hardship - an incredible mission that reflects his passion for helping both pets and people. We're excited to see him continue making a difference for pets throughout our region in this new role.

In Dr. Stegman's own words: "I am so grateful to the RRAEH clients and staff for their years of support and patronage, and look forward to working in collaboration on this next phase of my journey."

Please join us in thanking Dr. Stegman for more than 10 years of exceptional care, mentorship, and kindness. We wish him nothing but success in this exciting next adventure, and we're grateful that he'll continue making a difference for pets throughout our community. ❤️🐾

Can we get some High Fives for 5 Years?! 🙌🎉🐾

Help us congratulate Sam, our Veterinary Assistant Manager (and recent vet tech school graduate!!) - on her【5】 【Y】【E】【A】【R】anniversary with RRAEH!

Check out what Sam had to say about her RRAEH 5-year journey:
🗣 Describe your first 5 years at RRAEH using only 3 emojis:
🤯❤️ 📚 ☺️

🔄 What's something you've learned about yourself since joining RRAEH?
I've learned that I absolutely adore small breed dogs! My husband and I rescued our Pomeranian through 4 Luv of Dog Rescue, and we now have a wonderfully busy household with two cats and our little Pom. They keep us entertained, keep us busy, and bring so much joy into our lives. ❤️

🏆 What's your proudest accomplishment?
Graduating from a Veterinary Technician's Program

👀How has your outlook changed since year 1?
I've learned that it truly takes a team to care for each patient. Everyone plays an important role, and when we work together, we're able to provide the best possible care.

💭One moment that always makes you smile?
There are so many moments that make me smile, but the biggest one is all of the people I've met and the patients we've been able to help along the way. I'm incredibly thankful for every person I've had the chance to work with - there are so many smart, hardworking, and amazing people here who make coming to work enjoyable. Looking back at all of the patients we've cared for and knowing we were able to make a difference in their lives is something I'll always be proud of.

📬What would a message to Year 1 You say?
You're about to learn more than you thought you could. Take it one day at a time, don't be afraid to ask questions, and enjoy the journey.

We are beyond grateful for the heart and commitment that Sam has put into her work over the years here, and have loved seeing her passion for veterinary medicine grow! Join us in congratulating her on all she's accomplished! 🥳...

☀️🌡️ Hot Weather Reminder: Protect Your Pets! 🐾💙

As we continue to experience these warm summer days and look to head into another hot weekend, it's important to remember that the heat can become dangerous for our pets much faster than it does for us.

Whether you're going for a walk, spending the day at the lake, enjoying a backyard BBQ, or running errands, take a few extra precautions to keep your furry family members safe.

🐾 Walk during the cooler morning or evening hours.
💧 Always provide access to fresh, cool water.
🌳 Make sure your pet has plenty of shade when outdoors.
🚗 Never leave your pet in a parked vehicle (even with the windows cracked).
🐕 If your pet seems tired or reluctant to exercise, head indoors and let them cool down.

Heatstroke is a life-threatening emergency that can develop quickly. If your pet is experiencing excessive panting, difficulty breathing, weakness, vomiting, collapse, or seems unusually lethargic after being in the heat, seek veterinary care immediately.

Our emergency team is here 24 hours a day, 7 days a week if your pet needs us.️...

As Veterinary Assistant Appreciation Week comes to a close, we want to take one more opportunity to recognize an incredible group of people.

To our Veterinary Assistants (and Lab & Discharge Assistants!) - thank you for the early mornings, late nights, weekends, holidays, and everything in between. Thank you for the patience you show our patients, the compassion you give our clients, and the unwavering support you provide to your teammates.

Your willingness to step in wherever you're needed, your positive attitudes during even the busiest shifts, and your dedication to providing exceptional patient care are what help make our hospital what it is.

We are grateful not just this week, but every single day, to have each of you as part of our team.

Happy Veterinary Assistant Appreciation Week! We appreciate you more than words can express. ❤️
