Kennel Cough is Making the Rounds Through the F-M Region
Kennel cough (Canine Infectious Respiratory Disease Complex) is a very common respiratory illness that can spread anywhere dogs are in contact with each other, including boarding and daycare facilities like ours, but can also be contracted by visiting dog-friendly stores, dog parks, going to the groomer, or through a simple nose-to-nose hello while out on an evening stroll.
If your dog exhibits symptoms, please keep them home from any social interactions with other pets
Symptoms can include:
• Dry, honking cough
• Gagging or retching as though they have something stuck in their throat
• Runny nose with or without sneezing
• Abnormal lack of appetite or activity
What helps protect everyone:
• Keeping your dog home at the first sign of symptoms
• Letting our staff know if your pet begins to exhibit any symptoms after spending time in our facility
• Giving your dog time to fully recover before returning – if your pet has been diagnosed by a veterinarian and on a course of medication, we ask that you not return until 10 days after completing the last dose of medication and symptoms have resolved
At Casselton Vet Boarding and Grooming we are doing our part to ensure a safe and healthy environment for all pets coming into our facility. We:
• Require vaccinations for every pet in our care
• Have increased cleaning and disinfection protocols in place
• Have removed community/shared water bowls during this time
• Are monitoring pets for any signs of illness and immediately isolating those who seem symptomatic
• Call pet parents when their pets show symptoms and ask they be picked up as soon as possible – we ask that your emergency contact information is up to date in the event you are unavailable to contact or come to pick them up
Thank you for helping us to ensure we are all doing our part to keep everyone safe and healthy as we can during this time.
