This adorable little girl came in today with his brand-new cat parents for one of his first important wellness visits! 🥹
Today he received:
💉 His first PUREVAX® RCP vaccine
🩸 FeLV/FIV testing
🪱 Deworming
🩺 And, of course, a full check-up and LOTS of kitten love!
If you’re a first-time cat owner, those first few veterinary visits are incredibly important for getting your kitten started on the right paw. 🐾
💉 What is the RCP vaccine?
RCP protects against three important and potentially serious feline diseases:
🐱 R - Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis (Herpesvirus-1)
A highly contagious respiratory virus that can cause sneezing, eye and nasal discharge, fever and other respiratory symptoms.
🐱 C - Calicivirus
Another contagious virus that can cause upper respiratory disease, oral ulcers and, in some cases, more serious illness.
🐱 P - Panleukopenia
A highly contagious and potentially fatal disease, especially in kittens. Think of this as one of those vaccines we REALLY don’t want our kittens going without!
RCP is considered a core vaccine, meaning vaccination against these viruses is recommended for cats regardless of whether they will eventually live primarily indoors or outdoors.
💙 Why do we use PUREVAX® for our feline patients?
Cats aren’t just tiny dogs and their vaccines don’t have to be treated that way either!
The PUREVAX® feline vaccine line is nonadjuvanted. Adjuvants are ingredients added to some vaccines to help stimulate the immune response. Because cats can develop inflammation at injection sites, we love having effective vaccine options that don’t require added adjuvants.
Feline injection-site sarcomas are rare, but they are one of the reasons veterinarians take vaccine selection, injection location and unnecessary inflammation seriously.
