Meet the Humane Society of Harford County's foster of the month Courtney Savage!

Courtney loves being able to help animals in need. She recognizes the importance of fostering to learn how dogs behave in the home compared to the kennel and how being in a home environment helps them relax. Her previous pets Bisque and Barley were adopted from HSHC 13 years ago as kennel mates. Both dogs lived every day like it was "the best day ever" until their recent passing. Courtney is fostering to honor her dogs and fill her home with joy.

Courtney is currently fostering Diesel, and her favorite memory of fostering so far has been his first time taking him to a dog's swim center. He was hesitant at first but has since gained confidence and improved.

Courtney is building a training foundation for each foster dog brought into her home to ease the transition from shelter to forever home and give them the enrichment and care they deserve while they wait for their new family.

Meet the Humane Society of Harford County's volunteer of the month Joe McArdle!

Joe's role at the shelter is to give our community room cats enrichment and socialization, as well as kennel cleaning. He believes the best part of volunteering at the shelter is knowing that he is doing something to help the animals feel more comfortable and aiding them in finding their forever families.

His favorite memory as an HSHC volunteer so far has been designing and constructing a mobility assistance device for a cat found in a dumpster that has a sustained spinal injury.

Joe currently has two cats, siblings Gracie and Klaus, who were found feral. Through years of love and care, he was able to socialize both siblings into a happy home life together.

Joe is a retired psychologist and cognitive neuroscientist who specialized in traumatic brain injuries.

Thank you for your dedication to our pets at HSHC, Joe!

The Humane Society of Harford County is in need of dry adult dog and cat food for our shelter pantry. Your donation can help feed pets in need!

If you are able to donate, you can deliver your donations in one of two ways:

1️⃣ Drop off your donation in-person during shelter hours
🔹 Weekdays 11 am - 6 pm, weekends 10 am - 5 pm
🔹 Drop your donation off on the cart outside, and come inside to the front desk if you need a receipt!

2️⃣ Use our online wish lists to send items directly to the shelter
