With all of the activity surrounding our glass frogs lately, we haven’t had time to provide updates on our current clown frog colony. We’ve been working most of the year with Dendropsophus sarayacuensis, a remarkable Ecuadorian population with roots from WIKIRI. This species does expand outside of Ecuador into the lowland rainforests in surrounding countries. This particular habitat was challenging to accurately recreate as it relates to the rain cycles and temperatures. We’ve had success adjusting to their needs and have had successful spawns from this species. We’re looking forward to having froglets available this year.

With the upcoming availability of our USCB Sachatamia albomaculata, we took some time to thoughtfully consider how we could make this opportunity about more than simply offering an incredible species to our customers.

After discussing many ideas and considering how we wanted to move forward, we felt our first priority should be giving back to the outstanding and dedicated people at WIKIRI. Their work plays an invaluable role in making it possible for us to learn about, appreciate, and responsibly work with some of Ecuador’s most remarkable species.

With that in mind, we are proud to announce that a portion of every Cascade Glass Frog (Sachatamia albomaculata) purchase will be donated directly to WIKIRI.

We believe it is critically important to support the institutions and people who dedicate their lives to conservation, research, and the protection of these incredible animals and their natural habitats. Whenever we have an opportunity to contribute in a meaningful way, we want to take it.

So another first for us. We had yet to witness tadpole development within the foam nests in previous clutches. It looks like these Black Webbed Gliding Frog tadpoles (Rhacophorus reinwardtii) are getting ready to hatch in a few days. We didn’t know if there were any fertile eggs present until today.

This was a moment; we’ve watched videos of wild individuals making foam nests. With our own foam nesters we’ve never witnessed the creation of a nest until now.

Our first D. auratus “La Coca” morphing out. Looks like we’ll have a number available later this year.

So continuing our week with glass frogs, we were able to catch this newly morphing Sachatamia albomaculata froglet. Hopefully there’s more to come to keep this little one company. We can’t thank Indoor Ecosystems LLC and Wikiri Sapoparque enough for the hard work they’ve done to make keeping this species a possibility.

We had a fresh group of Cascade Glass Frog tadpoles hatch today (Sachatamia albomaculata). We’re moving them our 10 gallon rearing tank which seems to have been yielding much better results with this species.
