So another first for us. We had yet to witness tadpole development within the foam nests in previous clutches. It looks like these Black Webbed Gliding Frog tadpoles (Rhacophorus reinwardtii) are getting ready to hatch in a few days. We didn’t know if there were any fertile eggs present until today.

This was a moment; we’ve watched videos of wild individuals making foam nests. With our own foam nesters we’ve never witnessed the creation of a nest until now.

So continuing our week with glass frogs, we were able to catch this newly morphing Sachatamia albomaculata froglet. Hopefully there’s more to come to keep this little one company. We can’t thank Indoor Ecosystems LLC and Wikiri Sapoparque enough for the hard work they’ve done to make keeping this species a possibility.

We had a fresh group of Cascade Glass Frog tadpoles hatch today (Sachatamia albomaculata). We’re moving them our 10 gallon rearing tank which seems to have been yielding much better results with this species.

From our black webbed Rhacophorus reinwardtii, to our unusual Red Eyed Tree Frog morphs, and our gentle giants the Sylvia’s Tree Frogs. So we’re getting closer to proving that this genetic trait may not be a paradox (or similarly termed trait). See here mom and her offspring. The degree of expression seems to be varied but maybe by next year we’ll have more information on how it’s carried and what gene interactions cause the expression.

It’s been an interesting few days as our Rhacophorus reinwardtii froglets come out of the water. Originally they looked to be keeping their green cooling but within the las 24 hours they started to shift towards an ice blue color. This entire process has been so unique when compared to other species.
