🐾 MEET MILES — THE LITTLE KITTEN FROM THE HIGHWAY 🐾

Sometimes they come through our doors in carriers. Sometimes they arrive wrapped in blankets. And sometimes, they come to us straight from the side of a highway.
Today, a gentleman walked into the Faxon Animal Care & Adoption Center carrying a tiny kitten he had just found alongside the highway. We don't know how this little fellow got there. We don't know how long he had been there, how frightened he must have been, or how many cars passed by before someone finally noticed him.
But someone did notice. And more importantly, someone stopped. That one simple act of compassion may very well have saved his life. We decided to call him Miles. It seemed like the perfect name for a little kitten whose journey to us began alongside a highway. But as we looked at that tiny face wrapped safely in a warm towel, we realized his name meant something more.
Miles had already traveled from danger to safety…from being alone to being cared for…from the side of a highway to the arms of people who will protect him.
Today is also September 11, a solemn day when we remember lives lost, extraordinary courage, and the countless acts of kindness shown by ordinary people in the darkest of moments. So perhaps there is something especially meaningful about Miles arriving at our doors today.
A stranger saw a tiny life in danger. He could have kept driving. He didn't. He stopped. And because he did, the entire world changed for one very small kitten. That is also, in the simplest of terms, what our mission at the Faxon Animal Care & Adoption Center is all about.
We rescue. We care. We heal. And whenever possible, we give an animal who had nowhere else to turn the chance to begin again. Miles is safe today because one person cared enough to stop—and because the Faxon Animal Shelter was here to open its doors when he needed us. There will be another Miles tomorrow. Another frightened dog or abandoned cat. Another animal whose story hasn't been written yet.
