Sometimes training horses is similar to watching paint dry. You have to wait until they are ready. It’s not flashy, it isn’t instagram worthy. And it isn’t overnight.
Building trust and teaching a horse to regulate their nervous system doesn’t happen overnight. It’s the small things. You have horse A who is barely holding their s**t together, and only doing so because I am using my energy to keep the tension below the breaking point. Turn into horse B, who stepped right up to the mounting block for this ride without having to move away. (This statement of itself is bigger than anything else.)

Riding Journey has openings for training!

My goal when working with horses is to create a relaxed, balanced equine partner working to set them up for success in the world of people. My approach is a Horse Focused one, listening to the horse and allowing space for them to be themselves while gaining the skills and confidence needed under saddle and at competitions.

I enjoy starting youngsters, and not so youngsters and giving them a foundation that is built on relaxed work and alleviating unnecessary stress, while setting them up for success.

My Rebalancing work relies on the skills I have learned over the years in biomechanics, hoof care, nutrition, fitness, and as a Reiki Master to unwind what is not working for the horse and slowly build it back up in a way that is sustainable for the horse and allowing them to be more comfortable in their body.

Endurance conditioning can get your horse ready for next season. Whether it is long slow distance to build up their base or to take them to the next level. I have access to miles of trails and hills to get them strong and fit.

I began honing my skills with a chestnut thoroughbred mare who set the stage to challenge and direct me on this path. I have worked to create a 100 mile, including Tevis and Decade Team horse, as well as a competitive.90s jumper in an Akhal-teke Arab that I started from the ground up. I have dabbled in eventing and dressage as well as actively competing in endurance and jumpers. I am also a Hoof Care Provider and Reiki Master.
