Hey central Oregon 👋 I train dogs and take them on outdoor adventures! I am certified through Karen Pryor Clicker Academy Professional Program and am a certified instructor for Predation Substitute Training through Simone Mueller.

This makes me an expert in positive reinforcement training and helping you navigate your life with your high prey drive dog.

I just moved here last week from all over the map and now this is my semi-permanent location. Bend is the area I will be in permanently but I may leave La Pine once I find a rental home. I anticipate at least a year in La Pine and I cannot wait to meet the local pups!

Arlo has learned how to watch wildlife without chasing. Here’s how:
1. Daily exercise
2. Games that fulfill his need to chase, grab, shred, possess, and consume. All things he can’t do to animals because he is a domestic dog.
3. Games that teach him to cooperate with me instead of blow me off in the presence of wildlife.
4. Games that allow him to use the safe parts of predation such as shown in the video.

Here is the perfect example of a situation that would’ve made Arlo chase immediately if it had not been for the training. He is very high drive though, so a squirrel is a piece of cake, if this was a deer, it’d be too much.

Dogs don’t live very long and it’s something I’ve been thinking about a lot as my dogs get older. I’m getting less worried about things like a little leash pulling. Well, he won’t get to sniff the ditches for the next eighty years, it could be less than five at this point, so I just let it go more often to give them extra experience and enrichment. There’s not much time when you think about it.
