On Tuesday several folks joined the King County Council meeting to share their concerns about the sale of the large tracks of land east of Fall City currently known as Campbell Global/Tokul Trails. They expressed their desire to have the County do whatever they could to assure this wilderness is preserved for recreation. It was sad to see that only one equestrian spoke. All the rest were mountain bikers.
This area has been a beacon to trail-loving equestrians for many years. I still recall the “bra trail” where hardy souls showed their freedom-loving equestrian lifestyle by leaving their bras hung on trees along one of the trails. To this day, equestrians are parking at the Fall City Arena and heading up into the hills to enjoy the fresh air and beautiful vistas.
If we want to keep this beautiful resource open to equestrians, we need to stand up and take action before this land is forever lost to development and clear cut logging. You can do your part by testifying to the use and value of these lands for recreation.
Friends of Fall City Arena is currently collecting Declarations of Use to share with County and State officials to make them aware of the importance of protecting access to these forests and making the equestrian crossing of SR-203 safer. Whether you use the trails today or have fond memories of trail rides gone by, your voice is needed.
