Puppy pick-up is just about 3 weeks away, so I wanted to mention something I think is really important for families to think about before bringing babies home … pet insurance. 🐾
I know it’s not the fun, exciting part of puppy planning, but it really can make a huge difference if something unexpected happens. Puppies are puppies… they eat things they shouldn’t, they get into things, they can get tummy bugs, injuries happen, and emergencies are never cheap anymore.
I suggest Trupanion, One thing I really like about Trupanion is that they are one of the few companies that may pay participating vets directly, which can be a huge help if you are standing at an emergency clinic with a large bill.
I also recommend looking into AKC Pet Insurance. Every family is different, so it’s worth comparing coverage, deductibles, waiting periods, yearly limits, and what each company does or does not cover.
I personally tried Fetch and did not love my experience, so that one is not usually my first recommendation.
I always tell families — you hope you never need insurance, but if you do, you will be so thankful you have it. Even a healthy, well-bred puppy can have an accident or unexpected illness.
So before pick-up day, please take a little time to look into your options and have a plan in place. It’s just one more way to make sure your new baby is protected from the start. ❤️🐾
