Fairview Veterinary Hospital is a general practice Veterinary office treating dogs and cats. We provide dental care, many routine surgeries as well as some emergency surgeries. We also offer boarding for both dogs and cat which you can add on playtimes, baths and nail trims to your pets stay.

🎃🐾 Tricks & Treats: A Halloween Guide for Pets! 👻

Halloween is full of spooky surprises—but not everything that looks like a treat is safe for our furry friends! This year, let’s make sure our pets get the treats and avoid the tricks. 🧡

👻 TRICKS TO AVOID:

🚫 Glow sticks & glow jewelry — Pets may chew on them, which can cause mouth irritation, drooling, and stomach upset.

🚫 Small plastic toys & decorations — These can become choking hazards or cause dangerous intestinal blockages if swallowed.

🚫 Candy 🍫 — Chocolate, sugar-free candy containing xylitol, raisins, and other sweets can be dangerous or toxic to pets. Keep the candy stash safely out of reach!

🧡 TREATS TO GIVE:

🐾 Pet-safe treats — Let your furry friend enjoy their own special Halloween snack instead of sharing human candy.

🏷️ Updated ID tags — Make sure your pet's identification tags and microchip information are current. Halloween can mean lots of open doors and unexpected opportunities for escape!

👻 Comfortable costumes — If your pet enjoys dressing up, choose a costume without headpieces or loose, dangling parts that could interfere with breathing, vision, movement, or become a chewing hazard.

🎃 Keep Halloween fun and safe! A little preparation means your pets can enjoy the festivities without the scary surprises.

Pre-registering makes check-in faster. Pets are vaccinated in the order they arrive, so please be prepared to wait. For your safety and your pet's, do not arrive before 8:45 AM.

Bring proof of prior rabies vaccination to receive a 3-year certificate. Without proof, a 1-year certificate will be issued.

Dogs must be on sturdy, non-retractable leashes. Cats must be in secure carriers, one cat per carrier. Please limit to four animals per handler.

Clinics are free of charge. Donations are welcome and appreciated.

🎃🐾 Halloween Safety Tips for Pets! 🐾👻

Halloween can be a fun and festive night, but some of our favorite traditions can create unexpected hazards for our pets. Keep these tips in mind for a safe and stress-free Halloween!

🍫 Stash the candy stash!
Keep chocolate, sugar-free candy, raisins, and other Halloween treats safely out of reach. A curious nose can find a candy bowl faster than you think!

🚪 Watch the front door
Constant doorbells, costumes, and an open door can be stressful—and an easy escape route. Keep pets in a quiet, secure room during trick-or-treating if they become anxious or overly excited.

🕯️ Avoid dangerous decorations
Keep candles, electrical cords, glow sticks, small decorations, and anything that could be chewed or swallowed away from curious pets. Remember that some Halloween decorations can cause burns, choking, or intestinal blockages.

🏷️ Update those ID tags!
Before the festivities begin, make sure your pet's collar tags and microchip information are current. If your pet accidentally slips out, updated identification can make all the difference.

👻 Keep costumes comfortable
If your pet enjoys dressing up, choose a costume that fits properly and doesn't restrict breathing, movement, hearing, or vision. Never force a costume on a pet who is uncomfortable.

🐶🐱 Give your pet a safe space
Not every pet enjoys Halloween—and that's okay! A quiet room with their favorite bed, toys, and some calming enrichment can help them feel secure while the festivities happen.

This week, we’re celebrating our incredible Licensed Veterinary Technicians (LVTs) and recognizing the essential role they play in keeping our patients healthy, comfortable, and safe! 🐶🐱🐰

LVTs are so much more than a helping hand in the veterinary hospital. They are skilled, knowledgeable, compassionate professionals who make a difference in every aspect of patient care. From the moment a patient walks through our doors to the moment they go home, LVTs are there every step of the way! 🩺🐾

✨ Here are just a few of the many things LVTs do every day: 🩺 Perform patient assessments and monitor vital signs 💉 Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments 🩸 Collect blood samples and perform laboratory diagnostics 🩻 Take and assist with interpreting diagnostic radiographs 💤 Monitor anesthesia and keep patients safe during surgery 🏥 Provide critical care, emergency support, and pain management 🩹 Assist with surgical procedures and maintain sterile technique 🐾 Provide nursing care, wound care, and post-operative monitoring ❤️ Educate and support pet owners in caring for their beloved companions 🤝 Advocate for patient comfort, safety, and well-being 📚 Continue learning and applying their expertise to deliver the best possible care 💙 Offer compassion, reassurance, and comfort to patients who can't tell us what hurts

And that’s only the beginning! LVTs are educators, advocates, problem-solvers, patient champions, and an essential part of the veterinary healthcare team.

Their knowledge, dedication, technical skills, and compassion make a lasting impact on the lives of animals and the people who love them. Veterinary medicine simply wouldn't be the same without them!

🎾🐶 Happy National Fetch Day — October 17! 🐶🎾

Is your dog always ready to chase the ball? Today is the perfect excuse to grab their favorite toy and enjoy a game of fetch! 🐾💚

Fetch isn't just fun—it can be a great way to provide physical exercise, mental stimulation, and quality time together.

🎾 Choose the right toy
Use toys that are appropriately sized for your dog and sturdy enough for their play style. Avoid toys that can easily splinter, break apart, or become choking hazards.

🌳 Find a safe place to play
A securely fenced yard or another appropriate area can give your dog room to run. Watch for hazards such as holes, sharp objects, toxic plants, and other animals.

🐕 Let your dog warm up
If your pup is going to be sprinting and jumping, start with a few minutes of gentle walking before the serious fetching begins!

💦 Take breaks
Keep fresh water available and give your dog plenty of opportunities to rest, especially on warmer days.

🐾 Fetch doesn't have to mean endless throwing!
For some dogs, a few short games are plenty. If your pet has arthritis, mobility concerns, heart or respiratory issues, or simply isn't a fan of chasing, choose lower-impact games or enrichment activities instead.

🍂🐾 Fall Safety Tips for Pets 🐾🎃

Fall brings cooler weather, colorful leaves, and lots of fun—but it also comes with a few seasonal hazards for our furry family members. Keep these tips in mind to help your pets enjoy the season safely!

🎃 Keep Halloween treats away
Chocolate, sugar-free candy containing xylitol, raisins, and other sweets can be dangerous for pets. Keep treat bags and candy bowls safely out of reach.

👻 Be cautious with costumes
If your pet wears a costume, make sure it doesn't restrict their movement, breathing, hearing, or vision. If they aren't comfortable, skip the costume!

🕯️ Secure decorations
Electrical cords, candles, and small decorations can cause burns, choking, or intestinal blockages if chewed or swallowed.

💚 Skip the glow sticks
Glow sticks and glow jewelry can cause excessive drooling, foaming, vomiting, or other irritation if chewed.

🔥 Watch those fall fires
Keep pets safely away from campfires, fire pits, fireplaces, lanterns, and artificial logs to prevent burns and other injuries.

🌽 Be careful with corn cobs
Corn itself may be okay for many pets, but corn cobs can cause serious intestinal blockages if swallowed.

🍂 Check your yard
Fallen leaves, mushrooms, toxic plants, rodent bait, and other outdoor hazards can pose a risk to curious pets.

🚪 Prepare for trick-or-treaters

🐾📋 Please Welcome Our Newest CSR: Squish! 📋🐾

We are thrilled to introduce the newest member of the team — Squish, Dr. Rodriguez’s adorable new puppy! 🐶💙

Squish has already taken on his new role as Chief Snuggle Representative (CSR) and is proving to be an absolute natural.

His responsibilities include:

🧸 Supervising all office activities
👀 Conducting thorough puppy-dog-eye inspections
🐾 Providing emotional support to staff
💤 Taking frequent, mandatory nap breaks
❤️ Greeting everyone he meets
🍪 Accepting snacks as payment for services rendered

While Squish may be new to the job, he’s already receiving rave reviews from the staff. His attention to detail is questionable, but his cuteness is off the charts. 😂

Please join us in welcoming Squish to the team! We have a feeling he’s going to be a very important part of the practice. 🐶🐾💙
