🐶🐾 THURSDAY-TIPS: Why does my dog shed so much?

If you’ve ever wondered how your dog still has fur after everything you’ve vacuumed up…
You’re not alone. 😂
Shedding is a normal process that allows old or damaged hair to be replaced.

How much a dog sheds can depend on things like:

🐾 Breed and coat type
🍂 Seasonal changes
🏡 Environment
🥗 Nutrition
🩺 Overall health

Regular brushing can help remove loose hair before it ends up decorating your couch, clothes, floors, car…and somehow your dinner. 😂
Professional grooming and deshedding can also help manage loose coat for appropriate coat types.
If you notice sudden or unusual hair loss, bald spots, significant itching, redness, or other skin changes, that’s different from normal shedding and should be discussed with your veterinarian.

🍂🐾 HAPPY FIRST DAY OF FALL!

Cooler weather, colorful leaves, pumpkins, cozy blankets…fall is officially here! 🍁❤️
As the seasons change, there are a few things to keep in mind for our pets:

🍄 Don’t let pets eat unknown mushrooms or plants
🪲 Keep using veterinarian-recommended parasite prevention as appropriate—cooler weather doesn’t automatically mean parasites disappear
🌙 Days are getting shorter, so use extra caution during evening walks
🍬 Keep seasonal treats and candy away from curious pets
🏡 Watch for rodents seeking warmth and keep rodenticides safely away from pets
🎃 Keep decorations and electrical cords out of reach

And maybe most importantly…
Prepare yourself for approximately 4,732 leaves to enter your house attached to your dog’s fur. 😂🍂

Look at Riggs & Vivi! 😍❤️

It’s amazing what a little grooming can do.
But grooming isn’t only about making our pets look adorable!

Regular grooming can also help:
Maintain the coat
Remove loose fur
Prevent or address tangles
Keep nails maintained
Give us an opportunity to notice changes in the skin, coat, ears, paws, and more

And, of course, the adorable finished look doesn’t hurt. 😂❤️

🦷🐾 THURSDAY-TIPS: Don’t forget those teeth!

When was the last time you looked inside your pet’s mouth? 👀
Dental health is an important part of your pet’s overall health.

Things to watch for include:
🦷 Heavy tartar buildup
👃 Persistent bad breath
🔴 Red or bleeding gums
🍽️ Difficulty eating
🤤 Excessive drooling
🐾 Pawing at the mouth
🦷 Loose or broken teeth
😣 Signs of mouth pain

And unfortunately, pets can’t tell us when they have a toothache! Regular veterinary dental exams can help identify problems before they become more severe. At-home dental care may also be recommended depending on your pet and their needs.

🩺 Pets don’t always show pain in the ways we’d expect

Animals can be surprisingly good at hiding discomfort.
Sometimes the signs are subtle.

Watch for changes such as:
🐾 Decreased activity
🍽️ Changes in appetite
😴 Sleeping more than usual
🙅 Reluctance to jump, climb stairs, or move
😠 Sudden irritability or behavior changes
🐱 Hiding more frequently
🐾 Limping or stiffness
👅 Excessively licking one area
🧼 Changes in grooming habits
🤕 Difficulty getting comfortable

One of the most important things you can do is simply know what’s normal for your pet. That makes it much easier to recognize when something changes. ❤️

If you think your pet may be painful, contact your veterinarian for guidance.

Yes, cats need grooming too!

When we think about grooming, dogs usually come to mind first—but our feline friends can benefit from regular grooming too! 🐱❤️

Even though cats do a pretty impressive job of keeping themselves clean, grooming can help with:
Removing loose fur
Reducing tangles and mats
Keeping nails at a comfortable length
Checking the skin and coat for changes
Helping senior or overweight cats who may have difficulty grooming themselves

Long-haired cats may need even more help keeping their coats maintained.
And yes…some cats have VERY strong opinions about the process. 😂😾

Regular, gentle grooming can help keep your kitty comfortable while giving you a chance to notice changes you might otherwise miss.
