The Haven The Haven is a nonprofit, no-kill shelter providing love and medical care to abused and neglected homeless pets until adopted.

As Memorial Day weekend begins, The Haven is reminding pet owners to take a few simple precautions to help keep pets safe, calm, and secure throughout the holiday.

Holiday weekends often bring more travel, gatherings, open doors, unfamiliar guests, loud noises, and fireworks — all of which can cause pets to become anxious or unexpectedly slip away.

Before the weekend gets busy, take a moment to:

✔️ Make sure your pet is wearing a collar with an up-to-date ID tag
✔️ Confirm rabies vaccines are current
✔️ Check that microchip information is registered and updated
✔️ Keep pets indoors or in a quiet, secure space during gatherings and fireworks
✔️ Avoid bringing anxious pets to crowded or unfamiliar places
✔️ Talk with your veterinarian about calming aids or medications if needed

A little planning today can help prevent a frightening situation later this weekend.

Boxer Mix Puppies Looking for Homes
These sweet boxer mix puppies are searching for loving new homes after their owner sadly passed away. Moms 100% Boxer, dads are unknown, but all four babies are absolutely adorable and full of love.
The first two are handsome black and white brothers, 19 weeks old.
The second pair is an adorable black and white sister and brother team, just 16 weeks old.
The owner had already started them on a great path and gave them their first and second sets of vaccines. While they have been with me, they have also been working hard on house and crate training and are doing wonderful!
All four puppies are: Playful, sweet great with other dogs AND kids!
These babies have already been through a big life change and deserve families of their own to grow up with.

Three adult female cats and two kittens were abandoned at The Haven overnight inside a tote.

We understand that people sometimes face heartbreaking and overwhelming situations and may not know where to turn for help. However, leaving animals outside a shelter after hours is extremely dangerous, as there is no guarantee they will remain safely contained, protected from weather or wildlife, or immediately discovered by staff.

While The Haven does not always have immediate space available, our compassionate team will always do its best to discuss safe alternatives, community resources, and available programs with pet owners before a situation reaches this point.

Unexpected animal intakes place significant strain on nonprofit shelter resources, including housing, food, vaccinations, and medical care. If you would like to help support these cats and other homeless animals in our community, donations are always appreciated.
