🐾 **Happy National Veterinary Technician Week!** 🐾

This week, we celebrate our incredible veterinary technicians and all they do for our patients, clients, and our hospital every single day.

Veterinary technicians are so much more than assistants or nurses. They are the skilled professionals behind your pet's care, performing triage in emergencies, teaching care and husbandry, taking X-rays and CT scans, providing treatments and nursing care for hositalized patients, collecting blood samples, running in-house laboratory tests, preparing samples for outside laboratories, assisting veterinarians during appointments and surgeries, monitoring anesthesia, managing medications through the pharmacy, and even grooming! They are often the first to check in on the patient and the last to make sure every pet is safe, comfortable, and cared for.

Their knowledge, compassion, dedication, and tireless hard work make a difference in the lives of our patients every day. Our hospital could not function without them.

And as always, we have lots of parrots looking for their next home, including many still waiting for our help (so they are not featured until we can find a foster or prospective adopting home for them).

Thankfully, research shows Cyclospora cayetanensis only infects humans, meaning your veggie-loving exotics should not be at risk.

Please be very careful with your pets, even exotics, in this heat!

We have already seen healthy animals come in with heat stroke just traveling to the clinic in an air conditioned car where the sun was shining on the pet's carrier!

1. Always cool the vehicle down prior to getting in the car with your pet.
2. Do not travel with them in a vehicle without AC!!
3. Place ice packs in carriers with your pets.
4. Be sure they are shaded in the car. Place the carrier on the floor or tuck towels in the windows to shade them.

Doing these things could save your pets life!!
