Kelsey Pendergraft, a licensed veterinary technician at our sister hospital, Columbia Pike Animal Hospital, loves that she gets to learn something new almost every day or week.

When she reads about a new skill and wants to try it, she says all the doctors are always on board.

Gavyn Broce, one of our licensed veterinary technicians at Town and Country, is back to show how to give liquid medicine with a syringe.

Check the marks on the syringe and draw it up to the correct line. Let your pet sniff it first, so they know it is nothing scary. Then open their mouth, place the syringe right behind the canine tooth, and push slowly.

Always give the amount on your pet's prescription label. If you have questions about a medication, give us a call.

Kelsey Pendergraft started as a receptionist at our sister hospital, Columbia Pike Animal Hospital. Today she is a licensed veterinary technician there.

She went through Northern Virginia Community College and then passed the VTNE, the national board exam. Her advice to anyone who wants to become an LVT is to start with any job in an animal hospital.

Dental cleanings done at Town and Country this month are $100 off. The $100 off does not include non-sedated dental cleanings.

Pets hide mouth pain well, so bad breath is usually the first thing you notice. Brown buildup on the teeth, red gums or chewing on one side are worth a look too.

Gavyn Broce, one of our licensed veterinary technicians at Town and Country, shows how to give your dog ear drops.

Open the bottle before you start. Open up the ear canal, put a couple of drops straight in, then close the ear and massage it before your dog can shake their head, so the medicine gets down into the ear canal. Then let them shake.

Follow the directions on the label of your pet's medication, and give us a call if you have any questions.

What does a licensed veterinary technician actually do? Kelsey Pendergraft, an LVT at our sister hospital, Columbia Pike Animal Hospital, explains.

LVTs draw blood, take X-rays, run lab work, assist in surgery and give hands-on patient care. The only things they do not do are diagnose, prescribe and perform surgery. As Kelsey puts it, LVTs are the doctor's right hands.

For $65 a month plus a one-time $25 enrollment fee, it adds a professional dental cleaning, dental X-rays, a Cerenia injection to help prevent nausea, and 10% off extractions and take-home medications. It works with any wellness plan, and it is the same for dogs and cats. This is not insurance.
