Happy Monday!

We are so excited 🤗 to introduce you to Momma Charlie and two of her puppies!

🐕 Momma Charlie is still a baby herself. At only about a year old she just had a litter of 7 puppies.
Momma Charlie is so adorable and just as sweet. She has done well with housebreaking, doesn't make a peep in her crate, does well with other calm dogs and ignores cats. She's the perfect size, at around 25-30 lbs. She likes going on walks and will make a wonderful dog to a lucky family.

🐶&🐶 Posie and Hallie are 2 months old and 10 lbs. They’re in a foster home together with another dog and young kids. Their foster mom reports: Both pups are doing super well in their crates and will walk right in when it is time. They're doing really well learning to potty outside and are easy to redirect when they get into puppy mischief. They're a great combination of playful and calm.

To know a hound is to love a hound! 😘

Oakley is 💯 hound. Which means she’s seriously the sweetest thing EVER! And she also really likes being outside on the hunt…cause she’s a hound dog. 😜

Being outside is fine, but Oakley needs to learn she can’t dash out of doors and go on adventures on her own. 😬 Learning a good ‘stay’ and recall can make a huge difference so we sent Oakley to our favorite board and train Blue Ridge Canine Safehouse. 🙌

Not surprisingly, Oakley is having the time of her life! She’s swimming, going on adventures, participating in play groups…and most importantly, she is learning.

Yesterday we welcomed 6️⃣ new dogs to NPA! 🎉

That’s six lives that were saved and valuable kennel space opened up for the next dogs in need. 🙌 Our rural shelter partners are drowning in dogs and work so hard to get them into rescues where they can thrive in foster homes and find their forever families. 🥰

As a tiny, 100% volunteer and foster based rescue, it takes a village to do what we can for Virginia’s most at-risk dogs. We owe everything to our volunteers, fosters, adopters and donors! 😇

Ya’ll are missing out on an AWESOME dog‼️

Eeyore is the perfect age, 4-years old, and the perfect size, 40 lbs. 🐕 He’s the most adorable, smiley nugget of a dog you will ever meet! 🤗

He is housebroken, crate trained, knows ‘sit’ and ‘shake’, and has the perfect balance of silly and naughty that every dog should have. 😜 Seriously, if you need a ray of sunshine in your life…Eeyore is the dog for you. ☀️

Yesterday, our favorite puppy, Percy, turned 5 months old! 🎉🐕‍🦺🥳

We celebrate every day that we get with Percy! 🙌 We learned that Percy had a serious heart defect and was in heart failure at only 3 months old. Sadly, there is no treatment or surgery to fix Percy’s heart and he will likely not live past one year. 💔

Because of our amazing foster homes and community, Percy is living out a puppy’s dream and doing all the fun puppy stuff while he can. 🥰

We pride ourselves on transparency…even when it backfires on us. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Buddy has had 3️⃣ meet & greets and everyone loves him UNTIL his foster says that he marks his territory for the first few days in a new environment. 🤦🏻‍♀️ His foster said you can literally watch as potential adopter’s faces drop and they’re no longer interested in our boy. 🥺

The frustrating thing is that there’s an easy solution to this behavior, it’s called a belly band! 🙌 Put a belly band (male diaper) on him for a few days and that’s all you have to do before he gets the marking out of his system.

Marking is super common in male dogs that aren’t neutered as puppies. And sadly, Buddy didn’t get the vet care he needed for most of his life. 😢 Despite being let down over and over again, Buddy is an awesome dog and deserves a forever home!

Buddy is 4 years old and 30 lbs. 🐾 He’s housebroken, loves going on walks, lived with a small dog his whole life, is in a foster home with a kid, and is a great co-pilot on car rides. 🐕

Please consider adopting Buddy! 🙏 He really is an awesome boy and putting a belly band on a dog is so easy to do and shouldn’t be a dealbreaker for him.

The Queso chronicles continued…

We shared Queso’s story with you a few weeks ago (link in comments) and we appreciate everyone that donated at the time. 😇

Today our sweet, hot mess, Queso is at the oncology for a procedure to biopsy the growth on his spleen so we can determine if it’s cancerous or benign. 🥺 Fingers crossed 🤞 we get good news!

Today’s procedure will cost almost $2,000….bringing the total spent on Queso up to $5,000. 🤯 Getting Queso the care he needs and deserves has drained our medical fund and we could really use your help. 🙏

As a 💯 volunteer rescue, every penny we raise goes directly to the animals in our care. Because of our amazing donors we are able to save deserving dogs like Queso. 🙌

Please help us replenish our medical funds so we can continue to say ‘yes’ to Virginia’s most at-risk dogs.

🚨Fosters Needed!🚨

Times are getting tough for our friends in Southern VA. 🥺 A man just pulled up with a mom dog and 7️⃣ puppies…in the bed of his truck. The shelter had to turn him away, because they don’t have any kennel space left, and if they took them in that would mean others would be euthanized simply for space. 😢Luckily, the man agreed to take them home for the weekend while rescue can be secured. 🙌

Mom is young, maybe a year or 2 years old and on the smaller side, about 30 lbs. 🐕 Puppies are suspected to be about 10 weeks old and are between 8-12 lbs.

We are desperately seeking foster families for the mom and her pups (mom and pups can be split up). 🙏 If we have foster commitments we can save this family and they will be ready for fosters on Friday, May 29th.

Fostering for NPA is super easy! We provide support, vet care, and supplies. You just need to bring your heart and home. 🏠 🐾❤️

🚨Puppy Alert!🚨

This little dude was surrendered to a rural shelter with his brother and mom, Luna. when their owner could no longer care for them.🥺 Despite losing his home, Nugget is a very outgoing and playful puppy. 🐶

Nugget is 4 months old and 10 lbs. Both of his parents are small breed dogs, and we suspect Nugget will remain on the smaller side as well.

He is currently in a wonderful foster home and loves running and playing with the kids. 🐾 He is learning quickly how to potty outside and getting use to the crate. 🤩 He is excited about toys and going on evening walks through the neighborhood. 🐕 He would love a doggy sibling or kids in his new forever home! 🙌
