Did You Know Bannon Woods offers Endoscopic Lithotripsy!!

What Is Endoscopic Lithotripsy?

Endoscopic lithotripsy is a minimally invasive procedure used to treat urinary stones in pets. Using a small camera (endoscope) passed into the urinary tract, the vet can directly visualize stones within the urethra. A specialized laser is then used to break the stones into tiny fragments, which are removed or passed naturally in the urine. This advanced technique reduces pain, shortens recovery time, and allows most pets to return home much sooner compared to traditional surgery.

In the picture and videos below you can see the stones in the urethra of the patient, the lithotripsy treatment then the final scoping of the clear urethra as well as where the stones disturbed the urethra tissue and were causing the blockage.

Treat them the same as you treat yourself.
💦 LOTS OF WATER 💦 Your average horse will drink 20 plus gallons of water today!
🪣 Electrolytes are helpful. Provide a plain bucket of water and electrolyte bucket if putting in their water.
🐎 Limit exercise during heat of the day.
🌳 Keep them in the shade as much as possible
🪭 Fans provide circulation and deter flies which helps improve comfort during these extremely hot days.
Please call if you think your horse is in distress from the heat. Time Matters!

🔥 Extreme HEAT Warning! 🔥 Remember heat just doesn't effect humans, our furry friends are affected too.
🌞 Tips for keeping your pet safe during the heat.
💧 Free Choice water available at all times.
🏃‍➡️ Avoid excessive exercise, early morning & late evening for walks.
🚗 Do not leave unattended in the extreme heat.
👀 Watch for physical signs of heatstroke.
💦 If your pet has a "Puppy Pool" check the temperature of the water, it can get very hot quickly.

Update on Screwworm from the Kentucky Department of Agriculture:
There are ❗️ NO ❗️ current cases in the state of Kentucky, at this time. Screwworm is a concern for horses traveling from Texas to Kentucky. The requirements will be dynamic. Please alert our office if you will be transporting horses to or from Texas.
