🐾 Community Pet Safety Reminder 🐾

As warm weather approaches, our team wants to remind pet families that heat can become dangerous very quickly, especially for brachycephalic (short‑nosed) dogs like French Bulldogs, English Bulldogs, Pugs, and Boston Terriers.

Because of their shortened airway anatomy, these dogs have a much harder time cooling themselves and can overheat in a matter of minutes—even on days that don’t seem that hot to us.

💙 How you can help protect your dog:
• Keep outdoor time short and avoid midday heat
• Ensure constant access to a cool environment and fresh water
• Never leave pets in parked vehicles, even for a few minutes
• Watch closely for warning signs such as heavy panting, drooling, lethargy, vomiting, or collapse

If you ever have concerns about your dog's safety in the heat, please don’t hesitate to call us or South Atlanta Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Center after hours. Early action can save your dog's life.
