VERY IMPORTANT INFO ON DOG EYE HEALTH!!
I want to share something important for fellow pet owners — especially those with breeds prone to eye issues like Boston Terriers, Pugs, French Bulldogs, Shih Tzus, Bulldogs, and other dogs with prominent eyes.
A few days ago, when the wind had picked up, my mom’s Boston Terrier, Moop-Bee, started acting like he had something in his eye. It was pretty irritated m, but we thought it was just debris. Within just DAYS (like 3 or 4) things became very serious. He was squinting continuously and couldn’t hold his eye open. His eye was weeping and you could tell it was very uncomfortable.
Yesterday, he was seen by a veterinary ophthalmologist and we learned he has a severe ulcer that rapidly attacked and destroyed his eye. The damage progressed so quickly that his eye now has to be removed.
Please, please do not wait when it comes to eye issues.
Squinting, excessive tearing, pawing at the eye, redness, cloudiness, discharge, swelling, light sensitivity, or acting like something is “stuck” in the eye can become emergencies faster than many people realize.
Some breeds are especially vulnerable because of the shape and prominence of their eyes. What may look minor can turn catastrophic in a very short period of time.
As both a pet sitter and animal lover, I just wanted to gently encourage people: if your dog seems uncomfortable with their eye, get it checked sooner rather than later. It could truly save their vision — or their eye itself.
Please keep Moop-Bee in your thoughts as he prepares for surgery next week.
If you want to see his eye, I have posted a photo in the comments. IT LOOKS BAD…so use please use discretion.
