Here are some tips to keep your pets safe during summer:
Never leave your pet in a hot vehicle, even for a few minutes.
Limit exercise on hot days. Exercise in the early morning or evening hours.
Walk your pet in the grass if possible, to avoid hot surfaces burning their paws.
Visit the vet for a spring or early-summer checkup.
Make sure your pets get tested for heartworm if they aren’t on year-round preventative medication.
Give your pets plenty of fresh, clean water when it’s hot or humid outdoors.
Ensure they have access to shade and cool areas.
Provide fresh, cool water to keep your cat and dog hydrated.
Use pet fountains or dispensers to encourage them to drink more.
Know the symptoms of overheating.
