What’s one little win you’ve had recently? It can be dog-related or otherwise. I want to hear some good stuff!

I’ll start! I recently shared some videos of my dogs playing with an amazing colleague in Australia for a shelter presentation. Some of the videos I shared were of our beloved Gus, who passed in February. He kept wrestling and playing with his much younger siblings even when he was nineteen years old and completely blind.

My colleague shared with me today that the videos were very helpful! And she said, “A very special mention to little Gus, who absolutely stole the show. His little legacy lives on today, showing that age is no barrier in play engagement.”

I’ve shared about my tote bag system before, but it’s worth a new post!

Tycho is a senior (he’s 12 years and 209 days old!) , which means wellness visits to his wonderful veterinarian every six months. His personalized bag gets packed with his mat, treats, a hand towel for chin rests, a travel water bottle, and any samples I have to collect. 💩

I also have packing lists for each dog so I remember what each dog needs. For example, Dottie loves to have her brush come to the veterinarian with her. 😍 This helps me keep things organized in my head, and I never have to put a poopy in my purse! 👜

Though I’ve been quiet, behind the scenes there’s a lot happening. Next to updating my website and working on some new class ideas, we’ve been soaking up a lot of BPE (Big Puppy Energy) with Clementine!

Clementine has lived with us for two months and she is ten months old.

Clementine and I spent the weekend in Dayton, Ohio, competing in WCRL Rally. Clementine earned her Intro title and her Flash 1 title! She also earned two legs toward her Level 1 title. In each of our seven runs, we placed. 😳

Yes, this is wild. Yes, I’m blown away. Above all, the best part is that Clementine is so happy and we had SO MUCH FUN. 😍

This is your seasonal reminder that it’s okay if your walks look like this. Your dog is out in front of you, stopping to sniff, lagging behind you, weaving back and forth, and all the variations in between.

When we’re out for a walk or on a trail, I want my dogs to experience nature, have the freedom to choose what interests them, and take in all the world has to offer. 🌿

Paloma turned eighteen years old a few days before we brought Clementine home! 18!! Despite some mobility challenges, she is still quite spry and spicy. This morning, she helped test out the training plan for my Back Up + Rear Foot Target class. I thought she might want to be the demo dog, but she decided it was naptime beforehand.

Though Paloma won’t be backing up more than a couple of steps, this was a great reminder of how important and enriching it can be for senior dogs to keep training and learning! 😍

Over the weekend, Clementine and I competed in our first WCRL Rally Trial together. We scored a 207 in our first run, earning a qualifying score and first place!

During our second run, another dog started barking outside the ring, and Clementine got distracted and a bit concerned. My main priority was to make sure Clementine had a great time, so I asked the judge to be excused. The judge encouraged us to take a little time to have fun in the ring before we exited, so I broke out the snacks, and Clementine was quickly back to her happy self.

We visited a brand new place, had fun, learned a lot, and left feeling welcomed and supported. ❤️🍊❤️

My 2-week class on Stands starts tomorrow at 6:00PM ET!

Why teach your dog to stand?

Moving from a sit to a stand, or from a down to a stand, is a great fitness exercise. But there are also lots of practical uses for this behavior!

Your dog’s stand behavior can be used for:

🩺 Veterinary exams
Drying off after a bath or swim
✂️ Grooming

We have a new family member! Meet Clementine! 🍊

We were not looking for a new family member. But, somehow, the stars aligned just as it became clear that this very special rescue dog needed an active, sporty home.

And she has just fit right in. 🥹

Clementine is an eight-month-old puppy, weighing about 30 lbs (13.6 kg). She LOVES to train, work, and go on adventures. She has a ton of energy and work ethic, and I cannot wait to see where we will all go together!

Welcome home, Clementine! We love you so much! ✨

I feel like I blinked and suddenly 2026 is almost halfway over. 😬🤯😅

Last Wednesday, I drove to Vermont to attend the IAABC Foundation Animal Behavior Conference in Burlington. It was truly something special to learn from talented colleagues, connect with other professionals, and spend time with friends. I learned all about backchaining, the research on impulsivity, and dimensional models of behavior. My friend, Maria, gave us a tour of her fantastic training facility, Fetch the Leash. I ate so much ice cream at the original Ben and Jerry’s! I’m so glad I went. I left feeling inspired, motivated, and connected.
