Happy National Vet Tech Week & 50th Anniversary ESAH!
Our office will be closed today, Wednesday, 10/21 from 12:00 - 2:00 pm as we celebrate our team and hospital!

🎉 Two Big Reasons to Celebrate at ESAH! 🎉

⭐️This year, we’re celebrating two very special milestones: 50 years of caring for our community and National Veterinary Technician Week! 🐾💙

In 1976, Dr. Caslow founded East Suburban Animal Hospital with a vision rooted in Empathy, Service, Advocacy, and Healing. Fifty years later, those values remain at the heart of everything we do.

In a world where so many veterinary practices have been sold to corporations and private equity, we are incredibly proud to remain an independently owned practice. Our independence allows us to stay true to our values and choose how we care for our employees, clients, and patients. That is something worth celebrating!

And as we celebrate 50 years, we also celebrate the incredible people who helped shape ESAH what it is today. ❤️

During National Veterinary Technician Week, we recognize our amazing veterinary technicians and the entire team whose compassion, expertise, and dedication make a difference every single day. Many of our team members have been with us for decades, and their loyalty speaks volumes about the culture we’ve built together.

Our purpose is clear: enriching the lives of our patients. From comforting a nervous pet to providing skilled, compassionate medical care, and providing education to our clients our team brings our founding values to life in countless ways.

To our employees, clients, patients, and community: thank you for being part of our story! Fifty years is an incredible milestone, but the people behind it are what make it truly meaningful.

Here’s to 50 years of independence, compassion, and healing—and to the veterinary professionals who make it all possible! 🐶🐱💙

Happy 50th Anniversary, ESAH, and Happy National Veterinary Technician Week! 🎂🐾

Today, we used a lint roller on a dog and removed these tiny specks. After looking at them under the microscope it was clear that they were nymph ticks!

Many times our clients will say that they haven't seen any ticks on their pets. Just because you can't see them, doesn't mean that the risk isn't still there.

Ticks aren’t just a seasonal nuisance. They can transmit diseases such as Lyme disease, anaplasmosis, ehrlichiosis, and others to our pets—and some tick species can be difficult to spot until they’ve already had a chance to feed.

🛡️ Year-round flea & tick prevention is absolutely necessary in our area. Don’t wait until you find a tick to start thinking about prevention. We recommend annual tick control with products like Credelio, Credelio Quattro, Bravecto or Seresto.

💉 We strongly recommend every dog be vaccinated for Lyme Disease. It works alongside—not instead of—regular tick prevention.

A tiny parasite can cause a big problem. For more information on ticks, tick born illnesses, and prevention follow these links:

If you travel with your dog to Mexico, please read:

Starting August 3, pet dogs and birds traveling to Mexico will need new inspection certificates due to New World screwworm detections in the U.S., though, pet cats remain exempt. The requirement follows Mexico's broader restrictions on U.S. livestock and other species imports since June.

🏥 Dr. Schweingruber recently attended a specialized workshop with My Pet’s Brace, where she learned proper fitting and casting techniques for pets who have suffered orthopedic injuries. She was also able to observe their manufacturing process first hand.

🐾While Dr. Schweingruber performs many of our orthopedic surgeries, she’s happy to be able to offer an alternative for patients who are not ideal surgical candidates or for pet parents seeking non-surgical options.

🌟We’re excited to now offer custom injury bracing as an additional treatment option for our patients, helping support healing, mobility, and comfort.

Some patients really know how to make themselves at home 😄

WonTon, Tso Tso, and Nairobi stopped by to brighten our day—and let’s just say one of them took “exploring the hospital” to a whole new level by settling right into our cabinet like it was a luxury suite.

We love seeing all the unique personalities that come through our doors… 🐾

We want to reassure our clients that our hospital was NOT affected by the recent rabies vaccine recall that you may have seen in recent social media posts and the news.

On February 13, 2026, Boehringer Ingelheim issued a voluntary recall of a specific serial of IMRAB® 3TF (1 mL) rabies vaccine — In some vials within that lot, sterile water was found instead of the vaccine. The affected (but harmless) doses were distributed between September 29, 2025, and January 8, 2026.

✅ We did NOT use any vaccines from the affected serial number (18665).
✅ All rabies vaccines administered at our hospital are safe & properly stored.
✅ There is no risk to pets vaccinated at our facility related to this recall.

As always, your pets’ health and safety are our top priorities.
If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact us directly. We’re always happy to help! 🐾
