Kansas City native Dr. Anna Mears is excited to join the team at Excelsior Springs Animal Clinic and serve the pets and families of the community she grew up in. Attending the University of Missouri, she spent seven years earning both her Bachelor of Science in Animal Sciences and her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine.

Dr. Mears has always loved the special bond people share with their pets and feels incredibly lucky to care for your furriest family members. She also values getting to know her clients and their pets and working together to make the best decisions for each individual animal.

Outside of the clinic, Dr. Mears enjoys spending time with her two cats, Udon and Patricia, trying new restaurants with her husband, and playing puzzle games. She is excited to return to her roots and build lasting relationships with her clients and give every animal the care and compassion she would give her own.

🦷🐶 **A Reminder About Hard Chews!**

We’ve recently seen an increase in broken and fractured teeth during dog dental cleanings, and one common culprit is chewing on objects that are simply too hard for their teeth.

Bones, antlers, rocks, hard nylon toys, and other extremely firm objects may seem like great ways to keep your dog entertained, but they can put excessive force on the teeth and lead to painful fractures.

A simple rule of thumb:

👉 **If you wouldn’t hit your knee with it, don’t give it to your dog to chew.**

Your dog’s teeth are strong, but they aren’t indestructible! Choosing toys and chews with some flexibility or “give” can help reduce the risk of dental injuries.

If your dog loves to chew, talk with your veterinarian about safer options that can satisfy that chewing instinct while being kinder to their teeth. 🐾❤️

**Healthy teeth = happy dogs!** 🦷🐕
