Screw worm infestation now in Texas. Please know the signs and symptoms.
This is an important read. States bordering Mexico should be on their guard. Unless we stop it, any state could be next.

BREAKING NEWS 🚨🔔 MEXICO SHUT DOWN FOR HORSE SLAUGHTER!

The USDA reports the Mexican border for equine horse slaughter export is CLOSED!

Texas based horse slaughter holding facilities cannot ship their horses to Mexico OR Canada!

Texas has reported cases of New World screwworm in livestock entering from affected regions, raising concerns about the parasite spreading into U.S. herds.

In response, animal health officials increased surveillance and movement restrictions, contributing to the closure of horse slaughter export routes through Mexico.

New World screwworm is a flesh-eating parasite that lays eggs in open wounds, and the larvae can cause severe injury or death in livestock and wildlife.

Because of concerns about the parasite spreading northward, restrictions were placed on certain animal movements and exports involving Mexico.

As a result, horse slaughter export routes through Mexico have been disrupted while animal health officials work to prevent the disease from spreading.

This is a developing story we are following very closely.

How will this affect Canadian horse slaughter?

All eyes turned to CCR for more updates as this story develops.

A wonderful client is allowing me to share these photos here. This was an emergency for obvious reasons but also because her horse was trying to pull her alar fold off with her teeth.

I lost count of the number of suture. The wound required internal and external closure.

The majority of the wound was closed outside in the dark with 2 cell phones for illumination. I had 3 wonderful people helping me. A big thank you to them helping make this a success.

Hi everybody,
This is Dr. Floyd. I am the owner and veterinarian of Serenity Equine.
I founded Serenity Equine in 1997.
The name was new and unique at the time. Since then I have noticed a lot of businesses and rescues popping up with my hospital name.
I want to be VERY CLEAR about this: our hospital IS NOT ASSOCIATED WITH ANY OF THESE rescues/ businesses/ therapy programs.
If you are looking for my site on Facebook, it should come up as a veterinary hospital dedicated to lower leg problems. If it does not say that then it is NOT my hospital.
Our rescue is CASHVAN FAMILY MEMORIAL EQUINE FUND: a 501c3 dedicated to helping horses with lower limb problems.
Please do not be deceived. I cannot verify or give testimonial or approval for anyone else who has decided to take my copyrighted name and use it for their own.
If you have a problem, please contact me directly through my office email or phone.

Sharing gratitude and respect for the intrepid horse doctors who frequently go over the river and through the woods to care for their patients. If your equine veterinarian is making a house call to see you this holiday season, please let them know how much their service is valued. A tip of our stocking hats to Dr. Courtney Diehl for this classic image from the field!
