BREAKING NEWS 🚨🔔 MEXICO SHUT DOWN FOR HORSE SLAUGHTER!
The USDA reports the Mexican border for equine horse slaughter export is CLOSED!
Texas based horse slaughter holding facilities cannot ship their horses to Mexico OR Canada!
Texas has reported cases of New World screwworm in livestock entering from affected regions, raising concerns about the parasite spreading into U.S. herds.
In response, animal health officials increased surveillance and movement restrictions, contributing to the closure of horse slaughter export routes through Mexico.
New World screwworm is a flesh-eating parasite that lays eggs in open wounds, and the larvae can cause severe injury or death in livestock and wildlife.
Because of concerns about the parasite spreading northward, restrictions were placed on certain animal movements and exports involving Mexico.
As a result, horse slaughter export routes through Mexico have been disrupted while animal health officials work to prevent the disease from spreading.
