I was worried that the snow and cold would kill my garlic. After the snow melted all my plants are just fine, about 12-15. It is almost time to get started on this years plants. If starting inside make sure you have a spot that gets a lot of sun and be careful about spots around windows. Winter is not done just yet!

Kind of worried. I only had 1 or 2 bees in my garden this year. No dragonfly's, and no praying mantis. The heat was abnormal this year. Next year I will find something to plant just for my little buddies.

This late heat means that gardens will continue to produce. Just make sure to keep up with adding nutrients as well as adequate water. Any questions drop me a line.

How are any of my gardening folks, gardens doing?

05/01/2025

Crazy weather this time of year, but got a lot in the ground and in the window. I do redundant so that if something does not thrive or the weather gets funky like the low temps this weekend, I have back up.

04/03/2025

It is that time of year folks. Be careful about starting seeds outdoors too early though. When temps drop below 40 it can kill plants, seedlings, and roots. Starting seeds indoors for outdoor or indoor should start now. Egg cartons are excellent to start several seeds at once, easy to move around to window sills or indoor lights and to separate. Stay tuned for more tips soon.

Usually not a lot to post about in the winter, but I'm trying to keep my garlic alive outdoors this year. Even with the snow the broccoli and brussels sprouts are good. The indoor broccoli, scotch bonnet are good as well. My bell pepper has lost most leaves but is still very green and vibrant. For those wintering indoor pepper plants this happens and the plant has not died. I have had ghost and scotch bonnets that start leaving out again in spring. This is also a good time to start thinking about what you might want to grow either indoors or outdoors this coming season.

A week away from Halloween and I'm still pulling tomatoes, okra, bell, Serrano & ghost peppers. Scotch Bonnets are flowering, Egg plant has some flowers and the broccoli and brussels sprouts doing good. Planted my garlic a few days ago and have an indoor Bell, Scotch, Bonnet and broccoli plant going. First time doing an indoor broccoli not looking great but I think I can keep it going and get healthy again. I'll keep you guys posted on the results.

Now is the time to start thinking about winter vegetables, planting your garlic in OCT, and saving seeds. I have saved many seeds such as cucumber, cantaloupe, okra, bell and hot peppers, and even tomato. With most seeds you can put them on a paper towel and let dry for a day or two. Cantaloupe and tomato are a bit different because they will stick to your paper towel. Instead use a non-paper item like a saucer or dinner plate to dry them on. Next, I use an envelope. I seal it, cut it in half, then label each side. Easy storage and seeds for next growing season. Happy gardening folks!

O.K. folks, I have not posted anything in awhile but it is that time of year when people start giving up on their gardens for the season. Depending on where you live and the temperature you can still get a good harvest even into October. I'll try to get some new pics posted to show the difference of my garden soon and other preserving tips as well stay tuned!!
